Alan Jay Read

January 26, 1950 — August 21, 2015

Alan Jay Read, 65, left us Friday, August 21, 2015, doing one of his favorite things, spending time with family. He drowned in the Oneida Narrows. Alan will be greatly missed by his family, friends and pets. He will be welcomed home by his father and mother Doyle and Jean Nielsen Read.
Alan was born in Logan, Utah, on January 26, 1950. He grew up in Trenton and still lived in the family home. He graduated from Sky View High School in 1968. He served his country from 1969-1971 in the Army 25th Infantry Division fighting in Vietnam. He was a radio telephone operator and flew many missions. He received several medals and commendations. He returned to dairy farming with his dad after coming home from Vietnam. He married Deborah Alvey, his high school sweetheart. They were blessed with one child, Taya Jean. She was the light of his life. He loved and cared for Debbie’s children Angelina, Leigh, and Zach. He and Debbie later divorced. Later in life, he met and married Kathy Sorenson. He was a great dad to her children, Nikki, Joey, Jamie, and Alex.
Alan had a great love of farming and was an excellent craftsman in concrete work. He owned Rocky Mountain Concrete for many years. He eventually returned to work the family farm.
Alan had a great affection for animals. He always had a faithful dog by his side and attracted numerous cats on his farm who simply showed up knowing somehow that Alan would never turn them away. He had young cows that came to him when they were called by name. We also can’t forget about the five ducklings he adopted named and cared for.
He is survived by his wife Kathy, daughter, Taya Ayala (Ricky); stepchildren Angelina Archibald, Leigh Hausbach, Zach Archibald, Nikki Smith (Brett), Joey Wettstein (Brittany), Jamie Wettstein (Tyson), and Alex Wettstein; and by his sisters Janis Crookston-Burton (Clarence) and Rebecca Wadsworth (Don). He had fourteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his big dog Bo. He was preceded in death by a brother-in law, Robert Burns Crookston and nephew, Robert Beau Bowen.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 27, 2015 at noon in the Trenton-Cornish LDS Church, 1200 North 400 West in Trenton, Utah following a viewing from 10:30-11:30 AM. Friends may also visit the evening of Wednesday, August 26, 2015 from 6:00-8:00 PM at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center in Logan, Utah. Interment and military honors will be held at the Trenton Cemetery following the service. Condolences and memories may be shared online at www.allenmortuaries.net .
