Alton Wayne Buttars

August 20, 1929 — April 21, 2016

Alton Wayne Buttars, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away from natural causes on April 20, 2016.
He was born on August 21, 1929, in Weston, Idaho, the second child and only son of Clara Holmes and Ruben David Buttars.
Alton grew up working on the family farm and spent every spare moment riding horses with his cousins through the foothills of the Weston area. He graduated from Weston High School and served in the Texas-Louisiana Mission. He attended Utah State University and worked for Ezra Lundahl until he met the prettiest girl at North Cache High School.
He married NaDean Allen on June 18, 1952, in the Logan Temple. They lived in Weston until purchasing the first of what would become the “Silver Star Ranch,” southeast of Weston. They are the parents of five children, 25 grandchildren, and 47 great-grandchildren.
Alton had a strong testimony and served and led in many Church, civic, and agricultural industry positions. He served in the Weston Ward bishopric and as Stake Sunday School President, Scoutmaster, Logan Temple officiator, and faithful home teacher. He and NaDean served as senior missionaries in the Ireland Dublin Mission.
He enjoyed farming, working hard and teaching his kids to do the same, camping, and fishing; but his greatest joy of all came from playing with and teasing his grandkids.
Alton is survived by his wife of 63 years, NaDean, of Whitney, Kathy (Joe) Archer, Blaine (Ramona), Sharel (Jerren) Cundick, Debby Treseder, and Ray. He is also survived by three sisters, Gayle Bouck, VaLoy Packer, and Carolyn King. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Donna Funk and Marlene Koller.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 24, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Webb Funeral Home, 1005 South 800 East, Preston. A second visitation will be held on Monday, April 25, from 10:30 am to 11:30 am at the Whitney LDS Chapel, 1444 South 1200 East, Whitney, with funeral services to follow at 12:00 noon. Interment will be in the Clarkston Cemetery. Condolences to the family may be expressed online at www.allenmortuaries.net .
