Arlin Murray

May 3, 1934 — March 26, 2018

One of the happiest men we know passed away at his home on March 26, 2018 surrounded by his family, leaving us with a lifetime of memories that bring a smile to our face.
Preston Arlin Poppleton Murray was born May 3, 1934 in Wellsville to Preston Bailey Murray and Valene Squires Poppleton. He was the oldest of five children.
He attended school in Wellsville and graduated from South Cache High School where he was recognized for his building skills.
He served a two year mission in the Western States Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Returning home from his mission he went into the Army. After being discharged he moved to Ogden where he found employment building LDS Stake Centers and Chapels. While living in Ogden he went to a dance where he was lucky enough to meet his dancing partner for life. He married Joyce Mortensen in 1960. Their marriage was solemnized in the Logan LDS temple on April 1, 1965. He was able to convince Joyce to move to Wellsville, or as he referred to it, as “Zion” and together they built their home and raised their family in Wellsville.
Arlin received his building contractor license and established Arlin P Murray Construction, where he built homes, milking setups and did a lot of remodeling in Cache Valley. He went back to school at USU and had the opportunity to change his career path to teaching. He was the Chairman of Construction Trades at Bridgerland Applied Technology College. Later on he was over the buildings and grounds at BATC.
He was an active member of the Wellsville 3rd Ward. He has served on the stake high councils, bishoprics, Sunday school presidency, dance director, and as a teacher which he said was the best job in the church. He loved the scriptures and always had one or two to share.
He is survived by his wife Joyce, his children and grandchildren: Annette & Brent, Michelle & Jeff, Brad & Angie, Kim, Cassie, John, Lindsey, Dan, Justin, Chelsie, Hailey, Abbie, Robert, Colbey, Callie, Landon, Coltin, Kara, McKilee, Colton, Kortlan, Kylen and 9 great-grandchildren Kamryn, Brezlynn, Kohner, Kohen, Landree, Rayleigh, Nashten, Kenzlee, Raysen and one due in August, his sister Sandra M Dickerson and brother Bruce P Murray (Leona). He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Joel P Murray, and sister Deanne M Coombs.
Funeral services are under the direction of Allen-Hall Mortuary. A viewing will be held at the Wellsville 3rd ward church, 49 West 200 South, on Friday, March 30, 2018 from 6 to 8 pm, and Saturday, March 31, 2018 from 10:00 to 11:30 am. The funeral service will follow at 12:00 pm. Interment will be at the Wellsville City Cemetery.
The family wished to give special thanks to Dr. Duke, Alex Kafton, Jane Gyllenskog, Britney Gibbons, and all the rest of the Encompass Home Care and Hospice team for their loving care.
In lieu of flowers take your family to dinner or better yet, dancing. That’s what always made him happy. We Love you. Till we meet again.
