Arlo Reid Marcusen

Arlo Reid Marcusen, 92, passed away on June 24, 2016, in St. George, Utah. He was born May 17, 1924, in Richmond, Utah, to Hans Peter Marcusen and Annie Vivian Egan Marcusen. The family later moved to Hyrum, Utah, where he graduated from South Cache High School. He served three years in the armed forces during World War II, and was with a field artillery unit in Germany when the war in Europe ended in 1945.
He married Joyce Anderson on August 21, 1945, in the Salt Lake Temple, and they were married for over seventy years. After his discharge from the army he returned to school and graduated with a BS Degree from Utah State University in Logan. He then attended the University of California in Berkeley, graduating with an MBA Degree. Later, the family settled in the Sacramento area, where he and Joyce lived and raised their family for the next forty years. Arlo worked as a salesman and in management in the wholesale floor covering Industry until his retirement in 1989. After retirement, he and Joyce moved to St. George. Utah.
Arlo was a high priest in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and through the years served in many teaching and leadership positions. Arlo loved meeting and talking with people and served for the last several years as a greeter at the church on Sunday mornings. While living in Sacramento, he was a member of the Sacramento Rotary Club. After moving to St. George, he worked as a volunteer at the St. George Chamber of Commerce for several years. Arlo was an avid golfer and had two hole-in-ones. He still enjoyed playing golf when he was in his late eighties and into his nineties.
He is survived by his wife Joyce, and three children; Terri (Jake Wooley), Dawn (Ken) Stevens and Gregg, three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Lowell and Lex Marcusen.
A graveside service will be held at the Hyrum City Cemetery on Thursday, June 30 at 11 AM, with a gathering and viewing at the Allen-Hall Mortuary in Logan from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM prior to the service.
