Brigham Ralph Godfrey

January 11, 1921 — January 22, 2016

Brigham Ralph Godfrey, part of The Greatest Generation, died peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family. Ralph was born January 11, 1921 in East Garland, Utah.
He is the son and oldest child of incredible parents, Brigham Wilford and Jennie Elizabeth Thompson Godfrey, who have waited a long time for their son to come home. Ralph was raised in Clarkston, Utah. Clarkston has been a quiet retreat all of his life. In his last years, just the mention of a ride to Clarkston to the old Homestead or the cemetery was as good as it could get. With cane in hand he was in the car, ready to go. Life was wonderful for Ralph growing up in Clarkston, being close to his aunts, uncles, cousins and other great people that made this small town.
Ralph graduated from North Cache High School Class of 1939 and went on to Weber College and Utah State University, majoring in Geology and Forestry. Ralph served overseas in World War II for 39 months. While in England on furlough, he would visit relatives and look up genealogy in old church records. Ralph was always so proud to stand at any function where veterans of war were introduced.  On his return to the United States, Ralph was called to serve an LDS mission to the Hawaiian Islands. Trips with President Kimball and Mathew Cowley in the mission car, the great tidal wave off Hilo, and the leper colony of Molokai were just a few amazing memories.
Ralph married his beautiful wife, Ruth Yeates Godfrey, in the LDS Logan Temple on January 10, 1951. They enjoyed 65 years together. Ralph and Ruth raised their four children in Logan. Ralph’s career took him to Hill Air Force Base and the Ogden Defense Depot, where he worked in electronics for 33 years. Ralph loved to travel and see the world. Many wonderful family vacations and great times have filled his years. Fishing, hunting and a good horseshoe game were hobbies he always enjoyed with his children and grandchildren.
Ralph is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He held various callings through the years, scouting and home teaching being his personal favorites. He always had a love for the Savior and a strong testimony of the truthfulness of the gospel. Ralph and Ruth have lived in River Heights for the last 25 years and have loved and appreciated the many kindnesses of their ward family and wonderful neighbors.
Ralph is survived by his wife, Ruth; 3 sons, Kirk (Callie) Godfrey of Layton, Chad (Pam) Godfrey of Holladay, Lex (Lynette) Godfrey of Logan; daughter, Leilani (Layne) Palmer of North Salt Lake; sister, Elizabeth Lott of Ogden; 13 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Merrilynn Hillier.
Funeral services to be held at 11:00am Saturday January 30, 2016 at the River Heights 2nd Ward building, 800 S 600 E in River Heights. A viewing will be held prior to the service from 9:30 to 10:45am. Interment and Military Rights will follow the services in the Clarkston City Cemetery.
