Dale Ann Briggs Mearian

July 17, 1943 — March 6, 2017

Dale Ann Briggs Mearian slipped peacefully from this life on March 6, 2017, surrounded by her beloved family members following a courageous struggle with Dementia.
Dale Ann was born July 17, 1943, in Long Island, New York to Loran Dale Briggs and Ruth Gordon, the oldest of three children. As the daughter of a US Air Force Officer, she and her family lived in various locations throughout the United States, including: MacDill AFB, Tampa, Florida; March Air Field, Riverside, California; and Ellsworth AFB, Rapid City, South Dakota.
During the early years of her life, Dale Ann’s second home was Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington DC where she underwent countless procedures in an attempt to save her right leg. Unfortunately, her leg was amputated at the knee when she was just seven years old. For the rest of her life, she endured constant pain and mobility issues with the aid of a prosthetic leg. These challenges did not dissuade her from activities such as water skiing and horseback riding. At the young age of 15 she was chosen as the Queen of the Deadwood Days Rodeo in the Black Hills of South Dakota.
Following the untimely death of her hero father, Dale Ann along with her mother and sister and brother, returned to Riverside, California where she attended high school. In 1967, Dale Ann and family moved to Cache Valley to be near extended family. Because of her great love for reading, she often escaped life’s trials within the pages of her books. Enrolling at Utah State University, she embarked on a life-long journey of learning! While attending USU, she married Charles Mearian. They later divorced.
Dale Ann was blessed with a kind, loving heart making friends easily. She had an optimistic outlook on life, never complaining and always finding happiness. Family meant everything to Dale Ann; her infectious laugh punctuated joyous moments at family gatherings. She loved being surrounded by her children, grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and all extended family members. Dale Ann was a life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, sharing abiding love of her Heavenly Father and her Savior.
She is survived by three daughters Debbie McCullough, Lorna Sanchez and Charlotte Smith, all of Sacramento, California; son David (Danielle) Mearian, Draper, Utah, along with ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Barbara Jane Pierce, and brother, Gordon (Buz) Briggs.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 11, 2017, beginning at 11 a.m. at the Fox Ridge Ward, 155 East 100 North in Providence, Utah. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.allenmortuaries.net
