Dean Stuart Haslam

Dean Stuart Haslam passed away at the Huntsman Cancer Institute on Thursday, November 20, 2014. He was born in Wellsville, Utah on November 18, 1935 to Alvin and Thelma Haslam. He had 2 brothers, Seth and Alvin, and 4 sisters, ValLean, Ruth, Leatha, and Ordell. He attended school in Wellsville and graduated from South Cache High. He married Elizabeth (Betty) Stuart on July 29, 1955, in the Logan Temple. Dean and Betty raised seven children and lost one in infancy: Vickie (Anton Menck), Kim (Donna), Stuart (Stephanie), Todd (Kris), Terry (Julie), Kelly (deceased), Vera (Jeff Cutler), and Shane (Tarasha).
He worked at White Pipe company in Ogden, UT for 5 1/2 years. Then he worked at Thiokol for 20 years. He then worked for The Church for 18 years.
He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving faithfully in many callings including a counselor in the bishopric and Bishop and was a dedicated home teacher for all of his adult life. He and Betty also worked in the Logan Temple baptistry for 4 1/2 years.
He enjoyed many things throughout his life including golfing, hunting, fishing, square dancing, going on many vacations with friends and family, and camping with family, including trips to Flaming Gorge.
Dean was a very hard worker all his life. He and his wife Betty served on the Wellsville City beautification committee for many years, and he was on the city counsel for 4 years. Dean had a great love for the city of Wellsville. He lived there all his life up until the last 5 months.
He is survived by his wife Betty, 2 daughters and 5 sons, 24 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren with 3 on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, sisters, a son, and a granddaughter.
The family would like to thank Dr. Ben-Jacob and his staff, Dr. Goates, and all of the Doctors and nurses at the Huntsman Cancer Institute for their wonderful care.
A viewing will be held on Monday, November 24, at Allen-Hall mortuary, 34 East Center, Logan from 6-8 p.m. and 10:30-11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 25 prior to a funeral service at noon at the Wellsville Stake Center, 30 South Center Street.
