Delone Humphreys West

August 5, 1916 — August 8, 2017

DeLone Humphreys West was born August 5th, 1916, in Millville, Utah.  DeLone was the third of four children born to Anna Rosella Jensen and Evan Walter Humphreys.  Growing up in Millville, DeLone helped with the family farm, enjoyed going to school, and loved going to Saturday night dances.

From the time she was very young, she embroidered, tatted, knitted and crocheted.  She made countless items that blessed the lives of friends and family.  She sewed clothing for her mother, her sisters, herself, her children and posterity.  She first started quilting with her mother and then continued the art throughout the rest of her life.  Each of her children and grandchildren has received a quilt or afghan created by her.

After graduating from South Cache High School, she worked at the Del Monte canning factory in Hyrum, Utah, where she met her future husband. This dashing young man from Smithfield was named Louis LeRoy West.  Their first date was a little rocky.  He was so late that she gave up on him and went to bed.  Fortunately, they patched things up.

Louis and DeLone were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on September 23rd, 1936.  They made their home in Smithfield.  Together they raised three children: Joyce (Gary) Allen of Cove, Utah; Arlin Louis (Diana) West of Fresno, California; and Larry LaVar (Betsy) West of Salt Lake City, Utah.

DeLone is a beloved Grandmother to 16 grandchildren, 61 great-grandchildren, and 26 great-great-grandchildren.

DeLone loves any and all family get-togethers.  Throughout her life she has given many years of service to her church.  She continued to be a devoted temple attendee.  At 100, she still lived at home, read, worked on word-puzzles, watched Perry Mason, and followed her Utah Jazz with passion.

She wanted to thank all her dear family for always helping and showing their love.  Thank you to close friends and neighbors who took me to church, the temple and other places.

There will be a viewing on Monday, August 14, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 PM at the Nelson Funeral Home, 85 South Main Street in Smithfield.  Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 in the Smithfield 11th Ward Chapel, 79 East 200 South in Smithfield with a viewing prior from 10:30 to 11:30 AM.
