Dennis Doyle Mcbride

March 22, 1943 — November 8, 2017

Dennis Doyle McBride, 74, of Mt. Sterling, Utah passed away surrounded by his family on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 in Logan, Utah from a rare disease known as Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. He was born on April 22, 1943 in Wellsville, Utah. He was the oldest of five children born to Doyle and Ranee (Kerr) McBride.

Dad was raised in Mt. Sterling, Utah on the family farm with his one sister and three brothers. Life on the farm was always interesting and entertaining and there are endless stories we will cherish from his memories of those times. He attended Wellsville Elementary and South Cache High School.

Dad married his sweetheart Linda (Whitaker) on August 11, 1961 in Brigham City, Utah. He started working with Associated Brigham Contractors (ABC) in 1963 as a cement mason. The couple then moved to Mantua, Utah where their three daughters were born. They later moved to Mt. Sterling where dad and his brother purchased the family farm and where they built their home. Dad worked hard at farming and raising beef cattle and where he taught his daughters to work hard like the boys he never had.

Dad and mom enjoyed their property in Cub River, Idaho where they spent nearly every weekend during the summers. Together they made it their second home where their kids and grandkids enjoyed spending time in the mountains and along the river with them.

Dad retired after 40 years of service from Associated Brigham Contractors where he worked as a Superintendent at Nucor Steel. During those years ABC was responsible for Nucor’s repair and maintenance where he was responsible for hiring sometimes up to 300 employees at a time to help during Nucor’s shutdowns. He was very well respected and known as a “getting the job done and doing it right” kind of guy!

One of dad’s favorite things in life were the many fishing trips he took to Alaska with his Nucor and ABC buddies. He truly treasured those trips. Dad also enjoyed pheasant hunting as well as taking his girls deer hunting in Dry Lake. Later in life he spent many hours creating beautiful handmade canes and tinkering away on many creative projects such as his pop-can wind chimes.

Dad and mom spent time traveling in their motor home before finding the perfect place they wanted to settle each winter. At Cochoise Terrace in Benson, Arizona where they met many good friends and made countless memories having lots of experiences and adventures.

Dad is survived by his wife Linda (Whitaker), daughters Denise (Dave) Cable of Mt. Sterling, Utah, Jody Holbrook of Mendon, Utah, and Marty (Blake) McBride of Mt. Sterling, Utah, and siblings Dian (Don) Olsen of Centerville, Utah, Ron (Mary) McBride of Mt. Sterling, Utah, and Kent (Debbie) McBride of Mt. Sterling, Utah. He had 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. He was proceeded in death by his parents Ranee and Doyle of Mt Sterling, Utah, brother Craig (Karen) of Mt. Sterling, Utah, and his beloved dog of 16 years Shorty.

Special thanks to the people at Terrace Grove Assisted Living, Dr. Faux and Rocky Mountain Home Care for taking such great care of dad. Also special thanks to the CJD (Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease) Institute for helping us to find our way through this rare and complicated disease.

Their will be a viewing held at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E. Center St., Logan, UT. on Friday Nov. 17, 2017 from 6-8pm and Saturday Nov. 18, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. with the funeral to follow at 12:00 p.m. Interment will be at Wellsville City Cemetery following the funeral.

Dad was an honest, hard-working man who has left behind a legacy to his kids, grandkids and others. The world is a better place because of him. We love you dad and we will miss you.
