Diane Fuhriman Perkes
HYDE PARK, UTAH – Diane Fuhriman Perkes, 75, passed away on September 9, 2014 at the home she loved surrounded by her loving family after fighting cancer for several years. Diane was born on October 11, 1938 (her Father’s Birthday) and was the second child born to Lewis Ezra and Pearl Ferguson Fuhriman. She grew up in River Heights, Utah with her brother Lewis and Sister Linda. Her Mother passed away when Diane was only 14 years old and she took on the responsibility of helping her Father raise a younger sister and taking over the care of the home.
Diane attended elementary school in Providence and graduated from South Cache High School. She married Larry C. Perkes on February 5, 1959 in the Logan LDS Temple and they were blessed with three wonderful children: Laurie, Michael and Stacy. She worked at Thiokol until Laurie was born and then loved being home with her children. Later on she worked half-time at the Utah Agricultural Experiment Station (USU) for nearly thirty years and enjoyed her association with many good friends.
She was a wonderful homemaker and her favorite time was when she could be with her family serving them in every way. She could do anything she set her mind on doing and was not afraid to try. She was recognized for her beautiful perennial and flower gardens. She enjoyed her home and yard. She was a talented seamstress and cook. She made many quilts, crocheted dollies, booties and blankets for family and friends.
Diane was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints serving as both Relief Society and Young Women’s President along with many other callings. She and her husband served at the Bishop’s Storehouse and also at the Baptistery at the Logan Temple for several years. She was a very compassionate person taking many meals to those in need, but never wanting the same in return. She courageously battled cancer for many years, never thinking of her own needs, but always concerned with the needs of her family and friends.
She and Larry enjoyed doing things together and they had almost 56 wonderful years. They enjoyed many hobbies, but her favorite time was with family. They enjoyed their retirement winters in Yuma, Arizona where they made many wonderful friends. She loved to play golf and was able to claim two hole-in-one’s during her lifetime. They purchased a second home in St. George and she enjoyed the short time she was able to spend there.
Diane is survived by her best friend and husband Larry. Her children Laurie (Gary) Hirst of Logan, Utah, Michael (Camille) Perkes of Wellsville, Utah and Stacy (Tim) Goodey of Clarkston, Utah along with 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren with two more on the way. Her sister Linda (Fred) Lee, Pleasanton, California, brother and sister in law Don and Judith Perkes, Roy, Utah, Brother in law Burnal Hillyard, Smithfield, Utah, Sister in law Helen Fuhriman, Boise, Idaho, Brother in law Dennis Perkes, Ogden, Utah and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her grandson Brandon, her parents and in-laws Clinton and Florence Perkes, her brother Lewis (Helen) Fuhriman (died on Sept. 4, 2014), brother and sister in law Robert and Geraldine Perkes and sister in law Dixie (Burnal) Hillyard.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 13, 2014 in the Hyde Park Center Street Church, 63 East Center Street, in Hyde Park at 12:00 noon. A viewing will be held in the Allen Mortuary located at 420 East 1800 North in North Logan from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and at the church prior to the services from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow at the Hyde Park Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the many friends, neighbors and Dignity Hospice for their compassionate care. Thanks to everyone for their love and support.
