Dorothy Bunnell

September 17, 1939 — May 13, 2017

Dorothy Keetch Hymas Bunnell passed away peacefully May13, 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer at the Logan Regional Hospital in Logan, Utah.
She was born September 17, 1939 to Delbert Price and Theodocia Dalrymple Keetch Hymas at their home in St. Charles, Bear Lake, Idaho. She was the sixth child of seven. She was preceded in death by her parents and four siblings: Albert, Evan, Veda and David. She is survived by her husband David Reese Bunnell, and their four children: Doreese (Grant Severe) of Smithfield, UT, Sherry Ann (Dennis Garr) of St. George, UT, Stacey (Clair Transtrum) St. Charles, ID, and David Scott Bunnell (Lori) of Midvale, UT. Her two sisters: Theodocia (Dennis Atkin - deceased) of Flagstaff, AZ; and Ethel (Thomas Hood) of Provo, UT; 21 grand-children and 28 great grand-children.
Dorothy was raised on the family farm in St. Charles, where she learned the meaning of hard work and to love the outdoors. She attended Wilson Elementary School in St. Charles, and Fielding High School through her Junior year in Paris, ID. For her senior year, she moved to Provo to help her sister, Theodocia, with her family. She graduated from Provo High School in 1957.
She met her husband-to-be, David Reese Bunnell, in February of her Senior year, a handsome young man from Orem, UT. The couple was married July 26, 1957 in the Logan temple. They made their first home in Provo where they were blessed with two cute, little girls.
They moved to Logan in 1960 for employment. While living in Logan they added another cute, little daughter and a handsome son.
Dorothy and the children spent most of their summers at Bear Lake where she helped her "mama" and "papa" on the family farm. She and the children loved living with her parents during this time and getting to experience country life.
Dorothy started working for Grand Central when it first opened in Logan. She continued working at the store and retired after 40 years; 30 of those years she worked full time. She retired from Smiths Market Place in 2011. She enjoyed working at Smiths and made many friends while working there, both co-workers and customers. Everyone loved Dorothy and would look for her when they went shopping.
She was dedicated in serving her family whom she loved dearly. She was a great cook, spoiled her grandchildren with holiday tea parties, wedding showers, and baby showers. She had many talents and freely shared them. She loved quilting and made quilts for each of her grandchildren. She also enjoyed crocheting, woodworking, tole painting, and countless craft projects. During the summer she could often be found working in her garden or in the raspberries.
As an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Dorothy had many callings. She served as Primary President and had different calling in the Relief Society organization. However, the calling she enjoyed the most was working with the young ladies in the Young Women’s program. Working with the youth was one of her favorite things and she had a lot of fun taking them to the Bear Lake house. She and her husband served two years as stake missionaries.
Dorothy was always a fun-loving person whom people loved to be with. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
