George Leslie Stewart, Jr.
George Stewart age 83 of Smithfield, Utah, passed away Saturday, January 20, 2018 in Logan, Utah at the Rocky Mountain Care center.
George was born June 10, 1934 in Pasadena, California to George Leslie Stewart, and Laura Charette.
Growing up, George had an idyllic childhood. He lived in Southern California, first in Pasadena and then Venice Beach. In the summer he would travel to Wilford (St. Anthony), Idaho and work on his grandfather’s farm and dairy.
He would later attend Utah State Agricultural College (now USU) where he developed a fondness for Cache Valley, and received his Bachelors of Science degree (1956) and later the University of Minnesota where he received a master’s degree in science (1959) and later his teaching and a counseling certificate. He was a popular biology teacher at Montclair and Upland High schools in California because of his use of humor and love of learning. He met Barbara Horak, librarian at the school, and they were married in 1965 and later sealed in the Manti, Utah temple summer of 1970.
He later became a counselor at the Upland High School and continued in this position he loved until 1977 when he and his family and dad moved to Richmond, Utah. Until retiring in 1994, he was the Administrative Assistant and Pre-med/ Pre-dent Advisor in the Biology department at Utah State University. After retirement, he volunteered many years at Logan Regional Hospital in the post-natal wing and served in the Logan LDS temple.
For the past decade George and Barbara have been residents of Smithfield, Utah, speaking often of their kind neighbors and serene location.
George is survived by his wife of 53 years Barbara LouiseHorak and four children: Laura (Alan Taylor), Leslie (Paul Erickson), Grant (Stacie) and Greg (Ashley). He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
He was proceeded in death by his parents George Leslie Stewart (1986) and Laura Charette (1955) and his brother (infant) Robert Lee Stewart (1942).
The funeral will be held at 79 E. 200 S. Smithfield, Utah Friday January 26 at 12:00.
