Gordon Val Nielsen (1930-2016)
Gordon Val Nielsen also known as Val Nielsen 85, died July 19, 2016. He was born Dec. 24, 1930 in Hyrum, Utah, to George Gordon and Ebba Mathilda Winborg Nielsen. He grew up in Hyrum, Utah and graduated from South Cache High School. He graduated from Utah State University Army ROTC, which was the beginning of his military career. He married his soul mate, Arlean Ballard of Cache Jct., Utah September 12, 1952 in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple. He retired from the Army in 1974 a Lt. Colonel. At his passing he recorded that he and Arlean visited 35 US States and 40 foreign countries. Val was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many capacities, but his favorite job was working in the temple for 8 years. He valued his testimony of the Savior and the plan of Salvation. Val loved his family. He loved hunting and fishing. He always taught by example—unconditional love, kindness, patriotism, honor, and integrity.
Val and his wife Arlean passed within days of each other. “In life they were not divided, and in death they were not separated.” He is survived by his son, Steven (Kyle) Nielsen of Brandon, IA and daughter, Jana (Joseph) Wyson of Las Vegas, NV and grandchildren, Sarah (Preston)Wadsworth of Logandale, NV, Joseph (Cachay) Wyson, Dianna Wyson, Tim (Berlynn) Wyson, Robert Wyson, Christina (Jesse) Ross, all of Las Vegas, NV; Sabrina Wyson of St. George, UT; Jenna Wyson, Las Vegas, NV; Peton (Sarah) Nielsen of Logan, UT, Evan Nielsen of Brandon, IA, and 15 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters E. Renee Nielsen and M. LuDean (Richard) Hansen, and his in-laws, Merlin and Juanita Ballard.


Arlean Ballard Nielsen (1933-2016)
Arlean Nielsen, 82, beloved wife, cherished mother, valued friend, and faithful servant went home to be with the Lord. She passed on Saturday, July 23, 2016. She was born in Cache Junction, Utah, to Merlin and Juanita Ballard, and was the first of three children. She graduated from North Cache High School in 1951. She married the love of her life on September 12, 1952, in the Logan, Utah LDS temple.
Her favorite hobbies included flower gardening and sewing. Providing Sunday dessert for the whole family was a family tradition. Her grandsons will miss all the altering of clothing she has done for them. Her life as an army wife took her around the world and back. They spent over 20 years traveling with the US Army in the United States and Europe. They finally settled in Las Vegas in 1974. She was married for 63 loving years and has 2 children, 11 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren. She worked as a medical receptionist for 15 years and dental assistant for 7 years. Her favorite job was working in the Las Vegas LDS temple for 8 ½ years. Her life revolved around her family to whom she gave a lifetime of love and devotion.
Arlean and her husband Val passed within days of each other. “In life they were not divided, and in death they were not separated.” Arlean is survived by her daughter Jana (Joseph) Wyson, and her son Steven (Kyle) Nielsen, the aforementioned grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Lamar Ballard, and her in-laws, George and Ebba Nielsen.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, July 29, 2016 in the Hyrum City Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.allenmortuaries.net
