James Dee Fowers

James Dee Fowers died peacefully at the Intermountain Medical Center on Friday, May 15, 2015, in Murray, UT at the age of 78 from a hemorrhagic stroke.
Dee was born on July 25, 1936 in Hooper, UT to James Carl and Ruth Knight Fowers. Growing up on a farm, he learned the meaning and value of hard work; a trait he would carry throughout his entire life. In 1955 he married his sweetheart and loving wife, Joyce Nelson of Roy, UT who worked to allow him to attend Utah State University where he graduated in 1959 in Mechanical Engineering. Upon graduating, the two moved to Ventura, CA where Dee began his career working for the Pacific Missile Range at Point Mugu.
He later accepted a position as an Operational Research Analyst at Port Hueneme, and furthered his education obtaining a Master’s Degree in Business from Cal Lutheran University.
Despite the love he and his wife developed for the moderate California climate, they felt prompted to move to Logan, UT in 1991, when Dee retired after 32 years working for the federal government.
Almost immediately after relocating to Logan, Dee and his family began establishing what would be life-long friendships to add to those they formed in California.
Throughout his life, Dee was an avid outdoorsman, car enthusiast, gardener and master-tinkerer of anything mechanical. He exemplified the phrase use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without as numerous tools, shoes and electronics could be found repaired and/or modified around the house.
Dee was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in numerous callings including Elders Quorum President, Seventies Quorum President, Scout Master, Finance Clerk, Home Teacher and 16yrs in the Logan Temple Baptistery. He served quietly, providing dependable support to those he upheld and showing his love for those around him.
He is survived by his wife Joyce; children Janell (Logan), Pamela (Tremonton), Teresa and Matt (Logan); four grandchildren and one great-grandchild; siblings, Kenneth (Logan), Nelda (St. George), and Carlene (Plain City).
A funeral is scheduled for 12pm on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at the LDS 10th Ward building at 1550 E. 1900 N. in North Logan, UT. A viewing is scheduled for Wednesday evening, May 20 from 6-8pm at the Allen Mortuary of North Logan, 420 East 1800 North, North Logan and from 10:30-11:30am prior to the services on May 21, at the 10th ward building.
