Jo Lynne Russak, 69, died Dec. 17, 2017, in Logan, Utah, following a short illness. She was born Sept. 3, 1948, the first child of Joseph and Donna (Wardrop) Russak. She was raised in Salt Lake City with her brothers, Randy and David.
As a young girl, she dreamed of becoming a nurse and realized that dream when she graduated first as an LPN from Utah Technical College in 1968 and then as an RN from Weber State in 1972. During her career she worked at multiple organizations, including Primary Children's Medical Center, LDS Hospital and Cottonwood Hospital. She served many throughout her career with positions in the Adolescent Unit, ICU and NICU.
She served in Bolivia as a health service missionary for the LDS Church in 1974-75. Her work there focused on educating about nutrition, sanitation and first aid.
She loved to travel, both in the U.S. and abroad. She was an avid reader, and her favorite author was the poet Emily Dickinson. She had a great sense of humor and was the life of the party. She had a special place in her heart for animals and rescued many.
Later in her life as her health deteriorated, she was cared for at Holiday Health Care, Sarah Daft Home and Rocky Mountain Care. She is survived by her brothers, Randy and David, sister-in-law Ruth, and her nieces and nephews. We love and will miss you, Jo Lynne.
There will be a graveside service at 1 p.m., Friday, Dec. 22, 2017, at the Smithfield City Cemetery (300 East Center Street) in Smithfield, Utah.
