Joyce E. Baer

April 19, 1930 — March 13, 2017

Joyce Eliason Baer, 86, returned to the arms of her Savior and many loving family members on Monday, March 13, 2017.
Born as a surprise twin on April 19, 1930, to George and Cynthia Eliason, weighing in at under two pounds, Joyce and her twin sister Jolene were not expected to live. Their 86 years sure proved the doctor wrong!
Joyce grew up in Hyrum, attended Lincoln Elementary and South Cache High School. She met Lloyd Baer, and they were married February 19, 1953, in the Logan LDS Temple. After being married for only 6 days, Lloyd was deployed in the military to Korea for 17 months. Joyce spent their early years working at Mountain State Telephone Company. In 1958 they built their home on the corner in Providence and still resided there until the time of their deaths. They enjoyed a happy 62 years of marriage before Lloyd’s passing in 2015.
Through adoption, Lloyd and Joyce were blessed with three sons and one daughter and also raised a granddaughter as their own. Joyce loved being a homemaker and cherished family more than anything else. She was always preoccupied with their well-being and happiness and enjoyed visits with her many loved ones.
Grandma was blessed with a talent for music and was known for her lovely pieces that she played by ear on the piano and organ. She was a devoted member of the LDS Church and loved the gospel. She held music callings from the age of 12 and also served faithfully in many auxilary presidencies. Countless funerals were brightened by her lovely music. Joyce also participated in the Ladessa service club for many years and enjoyed the numerous friendships she had with friends and neighbors.
Joyce was a caring and selfless mother, wife, grandmother and friend and will be greatly missed. We love you, Gram!
She was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd, son David, daughter Holly, grandson Stephen and brother Allen Eliason. What a joyful reunion there must have been! She is survived by sons Roger and Cody (Kim), Ashley (Dustin) Nielsen, son-in-law Stephen Duncan, daughter-in-law Elizabeth Baer, 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; siblings Jolene (Richard) Merrill, Burton (Marlene) Eliason, and Deanna (Frank) Metcalf, and sister-in-law Inge Eliason along with many members of her extended family.
The family wishes to thank all who have been so kind and generous during Joyce's illness and expresses special thanks to the staff at Sunshine Terrace for their loving care.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday, March 18, at the Providence 1st Ward, 420 West 100 North, Providence. A viewing will be held at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center in Logan, from 6:00-7:30 p.m. on Friday. A viewing will also be held prior to the funeral from 10:30-11:30 a.m.
