Lamont Schenk

Lamont Schenk, 86, of Nibley, passed away peacefully on Nov. 5, 2014.
Lamont was born to John H. Schenk and Mary Adell Anderson Schenk in 1928 in College Ward, Utah. He was the 11th of 13 children. He grew up in College Ward and worked on his father’s farm as a boy, milking cows and tending crops.
He served a Texas-Louisiana LDS mission from 1949 to 1951. After his mission he married Ada Hardman in the Logan LDS Temple. Five weeks later, he left home to fight in the Korean War. During the war, he served as an anti-aircraft gunner and was stationed in Tokyo, Japan. Lamont and Ada had four children together.
Lamont married Rhea Jo’an Lund after Ada died at an early age. He adopted her four boys and they had one more child together for a total of nine children. Lamont has worked many different jobs, many of them in farming. He has been a potato farmer, a mink farmer, and a dairy farmer. He served as secretary and water master of the Nibley Blacksmith Fork Irrigation Company. He worked for many years as a custodian at South Cache Middle School and Macey’s supermarket. He also served on the Nibley Planning and Zoning Board for seven years. He was an active member of the LDS church and was a temple worker at the Logan Temple Baptistry for over 15 years. He had a great love of classic cars and could name the year, make, and model of any classic car he saw, amazing his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Rhea, and his children: Michael Schenk, John Schenk, Jean Schenk, Clair (Laura) Schenk, Daniel (Lenet) Schenk, Ramond (Darlene) Schenk, and Bonnie (Eldon) Schenk-Darrington. He is also survived by his 16 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. He was preceeded in death by his first wife, Ada Hardman Schenk; his daughter, Charlene Schenk Maughan; his son Lamond Joseph “Junior” Schenk; and his grandson, Jason L. Schenk.
Funeral services will be held at the Nibley church house (360 West 3200 South) on Monday, Nov. 10, at 11:00 a.m. A viewing will be held at the same location on Sunday, Nov. 9, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., and one hour prior to the funeral. Interment will be in the Providence City Cemetery
