Lee Raymond Mcdonald

July 20, 1930 — September 30, 2017

Lee Raymond McDonald Sr, 87, of Smithfield, UT died peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family Sept. 30, 2017, after a courageous battle with liver cancer. Dad was born in Logan, UT on July 20, 1930 to Lloyd Crawford McDonald and Amanda Myrtle Peterson McDonald. He married his eternal sweetheart, Laura Jean Weeks on June 22, 1949. He was a member of the LDS Church and enjoyed serving in a wide variety of positions. Dad was a kind, loving man and deeply cherished all of his family and friends. He worked hard all his life and had a very strong work ethic, sometimes working multiple jobs to support his family. Dad took care of all of us when needed and especially our dear mother. As Dad moved into a care-giver role, he became a great cook making his own sourdough bread and waffles. His love of gardening produced enough that he made tasty pickles, relishes and sauces. Dad was a lover of anything historic or antique. He could tell by just the silhouette, the identity of any plane, train, or automobile. He also spent many hours working on geneology and made sure that the entire family knew about our history. He loved telling stories about the adventures of his youth. Dad will be missed dearly and his loss leaves a huge hole in our hearts. He leaves behind a loving family, and many friends. He is survived by his wife Laura Jean; children, Lee McDonald Jr. (Char) of Smithfield UT; Dale McDonald (Shannon) of Smithfield, UT; Eunice Dillon (Leonard) of Logan,UT; David McDonald (Laura) of Smithfield, UT; Archie McDonald (Cindy – deceased) of Smithfield, UT; Scott McDonald (Mary Ann) of Smithfield, UT; and Carolyn Benson (Kurt) of Newton, UT. He is also survived by his dear sister, Ruth McDonald Meyers of Columbus, OH. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren. Dad was preceded in death by his father Lloyd C. McDonald and his mother, Amanda Myrtle McDonald; two sisters, Ellen Wright and Thelma Hulse, three brothers, Lloyd McDonald, Dean McDonald and John McDonald. Dad was also preceded in death by a grandson, Ryan McDonald; a son-in-law, Edward Ray Hyden; and a daughter-in-law, Cindy Davis McDonald. A viewing will be held on Thursday, October 5th from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street, Logan. At Dad’s request, a graveside service will be held on Friday, October 6th, at 12:30 p.m. in the Smithfield Cemetery. The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to Dr. Brian Carlsen, Dr. Maria Jepperson, Rocky Mountain Hospice, and the skilled, loving people at Logan Regional Hospital during his time there. Dad was a strong supporter of the Cache County Food Bank. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name at the Food Bank.
