Marie Adele Hansen Christensen

September 23, 1937 — August 20, 2017

Marie Adele Hansen Christensen, 79, died Sunday afternoon, August 20, 2017, at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City surrounded by her family. She had engaged a valiant fight with cancer since January.
A lifetime resident of Logan, Marie was born September 23, 1937 in Logan, Utah, to Lorenzo F. and Elma Johnson Hansen. She graduated from Logan High School in 1955 and on June 2, 1955 married Jack Ring Christensen in the Logan Temple. They became true partners and soulmates in every endeavor of life. Jack died July 2, 2002, and enduring these past fifteen years without him has perhaps been her greatest trial.

Marie and Jack initially made their livelihood raising wheat and barley in Caribou County Idaho. In those early years, Marie also worked as a telephone operator in Logan while helping Jack to build the house they shared for their entire married life. For a period of years she took seasonal employment as a tax preparer at H&R Block. The profession that brought her the greatest satisfaction and joy, however, was that of mother, grandmother, and homemaker. Marie and Jack were blessed with three children, Ann (Clair), Keith (Jenean), and Scott (Megan). Marie’s descendants also include grandchildren Lisa (Marcus) Hahne, Mark (Camrie) Christensen, Katelin (Kyle) Pyfer, Jennifer Christensen, Jacob Christensen, and Tate Christensen, and great-granddaughter Clara Pyfer.

Service to the community was a priority for Marie. For many years she volunteered as a 4H leader. She served as a docent at USU’s Ronald V. Jensen Living Historical Farm and helped develop the museum’s gift shop. Marie also helped to research and create costumes for the Martin Harris Pageant. For decades she was an active participant in the Cache Valley Historical Society and the minutes and history she created for that organization now reside in the USU Special Collections library. Marie became affiliated with the Daughters of Utah Pioneers and often gave lessons at chapter meetings. She also enjoyed affiliation with members of the local doll club.

Marie was a gifted writer and textile artist. One masterpiece quilt she made was selected for exhibit at the LDS Church’s International Art Competition and was featured on the cover of the August 1996 Ensign magazine.

Marie was grateful for her membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a deep and abiding conviction in those beliefs. Over the years she served in many church positions including in ward and stake Young Women’s presidencies, Relief Society, and as a temple preparation teacher. Her favorite calling was serving as an ordinance worker with Jack in the Logan Temple.

Funeral services will be Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 11:00 a.m., at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street in Logan.
