Marie Fuhrman Olsen

October 19, 1925 — March 21, 2015

Our beloved mother, Marie Fuhriman Olsen, 89, passed away Saturday, March 21, with her family by her side.
Marie was born October 19, 1925 in Providence, Utah to Norman Wesley and Elva Tibbitts Fuhriman. She was raised, and attended school, in Providence and graduated from South Cache High School in 1943. In January 1946, she was called to serve a mission for the LDS Church in the Northwestern States Mission, where she served for 18 months. The following year on January 15, 1948, she married Blaine Alma Olsen in the Logan LDS Temple. Together, they were blessed with eight children – 5 boys and three girls.
After her children were raised, Marie chose to return to school at Utah State University, where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, at age 52. She went on to receive her Master’s Degree in Gerontology, four years later. Her love for writing came as the result of continuing her education, and she has been recognized and honored by the International Society of Poets for her poetry. She has written articles for The Herald Journal, LDS Church magazine, “The Ensign,” authored a children’s book called “Gum for Grandma Great,” and her collection of written histories of luminaries in Cache Valley remains in the USU library. Most recently, she was asked to assist in writing the third volume of “Providence and Her People,” published in 2009. She enjoyed her involvement with social and community affairs and loved her volunteer work with the elderly. Marie loved her life, always had a smile on her face, and was one who enjoyed a good laugh.
Marie served in several capacities of LDS Church callings, including three missions with her husband, Blaine, to Jamaica, Fiji and the John Johnson Home in Hiram, OH. Marie was diligent in her genealogy and temple work and had a deep love for keeping a journal, taking pictures and compiling albums full of her life’s history and experiences. Her testimony of The Gospel and her family were her most prized treasures, as was very evident to all those who knew her; she was an example of Christ-like love.
Marie is survived by seven of her children, Norman Blaine (Linda) Olsen, Jay Glen (Tammie) Olsen, Brian Fuhriman (Michelle) Olsen, Ronald Dewey (Gaylene) Olsen, Elvalee (Richard) Eliason, Sheldon Lloyd (Krista) Olsen and Leah Louise (Chuck) Lawin; 21 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Renae (Pete) Burningham.
Marie is preceded in death by her husband, Blaine Olsen; daughter, Maxine Andersen; grandson, Dax Olsen; brothers, Wesley Fuhriman, Rex (Elaine) Fuhriman; and sister, Geraldine (Bob) Perkes.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 27, 2015, in the Providence Church, 309 S. Main St. in Providence. A viewing will be held Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E. Center St. in Logan; and prior to services at the church from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Providence City Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.allenmorturaries.net . We extend a heartfelt thanks to Marie’s ward members, friends and neighbors for their continued love and care of our mother.
