Michael James Markeson

May 3, 1956 — January 20, 2015

Michael James Markeson passed away on January 20, 2015 of a heart attack. He was 58 years young.

Mike was born in Jeffersonville, Indiana on May 3, 1956 to his parents Robert and Ethel Markeson. His family moved to Brigham City, Utah when he was a child. He graduated from Box Elder High School in 1974. He attended the University of Utah and Utah State University where he received a degree in mechanical engineering. He met his wife Alta in college and they married and moved to Logan where they raised two daughters. Mike spent his career working at ATK Thiokol as an engineer.

Mike enjoyed all outdoors activities and his favorites included fly-fishing, skiing with his daughters, golfing and hiking. He recently discovered a love for road biking and was looking forward to riding LoToJa (Logan to Jackson) this fall. Mike often spent his weekends working on home improvement projects (his home and others’), playing with his dogs, and watching sports. Most of all, Mike loved spending time with his family whom he loved dearly. Mike was a wonderful father, an adventurous traveler, a consummate professional in everything he did, and a loyal and fun friend to many.

Mike is survived by his wife, Alta Markeson; his daughters, Amy and Abby Markeson; sons-in-law, David Conlin and Jared Schiffman, and three grandchildren, Emmett, Clover, and Owen. He is also survived by his sister, Cathy Phipps; and his brothers, John and Tom Markeson.
