Myra Johnson

January 28, 1925 — April 15, 2015

Myra Bee Gough Johnson, age 90, of Hyrum, passed away peacefully at the Logan Regional Hospital on April 15, 2015, of causes incident to age. She was born on January 28, 1925 to Lile T. Gough and Myra Elizabeth Gray. She was their first child and only girl. She was given the name Myra because it was a name that had been in the family for five generations, and the name of Bee, after her grandfather Bert Gray. She always went by “Bee” all of her life.

Bee grew up in Salt Lake City and attended Salt Lake City schools, graduating from West High School. She went to work at the Deseret News after high school, and then served an LDS mission to Mexico.

She met the love of her life, Kay Johnson, at church. They were married on May 4, 1949, in the Salt Lake Temple. They lived the first six years of their married life in Salt Lake City, and the next three years in Chinook, Montana. They had five children while living in Chinook. Their fifth child was born with spina - biffida and only lived a few days.

From Montana, they moved to Riverton, Wyoming for a few months, and then back to Salt Lake, where they spent the next 11 years. Three more children came there. In 1970, the family moved to Hyrum, where Kay and Bee have lived ever since.

Bee was a hard worker, a loving wife and mother, and a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She always had a church calling, and served as Relief Society President for several years. She worked by Kay’s side to take care of the family, helping with his bookkeeping service and then as church custodians together. She had a love of music, and played the piano and cello. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She was greatly loved by her family, who will miss her and are having a hard time with her loss.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Wayne Gough, a daughter, Betty Jean Johnson, and a granddaughter, Melody Johnson. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, two brothers, Grant Gough (Bonnie) of Bountiful, Thomas Gough (Marilyn), of Salt Lake, seven children; Ruth (Duane) Jensen of Logan, David (Suzie) Johnson of Santaquin, Janice (Mike) Mikkelsen of Smithfield, Jim (Pam) Johnson of Midvale, Tim (Robin) Johnson of Hyrum, Wes(Margaret) Johnson of Hyrum, and Mary Ann (Randy Kontz) of Logan, 24 grandchildren, and 22 great grandchildren, with four more on the way.

A viewing will be held at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street, Logan, Utah, on Sunday April 19, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and also on Monday from 10:30 to 11:30 am at the Hyrum North Stake Center, 245 Apple Drive, Hyrum, Utah, with the funeral following at 12:00 noon, in the Hyrum North Stake Canter.
