Nellie Ruth Sharp

September 17, 1930 — September 2, 2014

Nellie Ruth Huneke Sharp died September 2nd in Logan, Utah after a brief illness. She was lovingly attended by her children to the end and will be dearly missed by all five of her children.
Nellie was born in Lemon Cove, California on February, 17, 1930 to Paul Huneke and Mabel Hambright Huneke. Nellie grew up in Lemon Cove along with her three older brothers. She was a good student and was proud of her high school swim team days and the time she worked as a switch board operator there.
Nellie married Richard Sharp on June 20, 1948 right after high school graduation. She was a proud patriot and strong minded military wife. She moved all over the country during her marriage. She lived in California, Mississippi, Washington, Nebraska, and Virginia before settling down in her lovely home in Logan, Utah.
She enjoyed creative writing and wrote columns for two small publications. She wrote for a newsletter for military families while living in Bellevue, Nebraska near Offutt Air Force Base and she wrote an amusing column for a local newspaper in Douglas City, California.
She was a stunning natural beauty. She eventually earned an A.A. degree in cosmetology from Golden West College in Westminster, California. She worked for a time as a beautician in a salon and later in the cosmetics section of a drug store.
She was very interested in politics and enjoyed following the news and engaging in lively discussions. A loyal member of the Republican Party, she served for a time as President of a Trinity County Republican Women’s Association in Northern California. During her tenure, she invited Maureen Reagan to come and speak at one the Association’s annual conferences.
She is predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Richard Sharp, her parents, and her brothers Verne, Jack, and Edward Huneke.
She is survived by her five children and their spouses; Rick (Karen) of Long Beach, CA, Paula Sharp Salvarakis (Jim) of Simi Valley, CA, Julie Anderson (Ray) of Logan, UT, Pamela Sharp Crawford (Truman) of Olean, NY, and Susan Sharp Ward (Richard) of Oak Ridge, TN. She is survived by 12 grandchildren, Rebecca, David, Kate, Brandon, Jacob, Ralph, Peter, Robert, Nick, Adam, Jessica, and Martina. She also has 16 great-grandchildren who live all over the world. A life-long animal lover, she is also survived by her special cats, Blackie and Charlie.
She was a loving and beloved wife, mother, and “Gramma.” She raised five children of her own and then helped raise many of her grandchildren. She was especially fond of her dear son-in-law, Ray Anderson. She was grateful to Ray and Julie for all the loving fulltime care they gave her in her final years.
The family will receive visitors on Saturday, September 13 from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at Allen-Hall Mortuary. A graveside service will follow the visitation starting at 11:00 a.m. in the Logan City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to The Breast Cancer Society.
