Owen James Brower

January 5, 1939 — June 29, 2018

Owen James Brower, 79 passed away Friday, June 29, 2018 after extended health problems. He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 59 years, Myrla T Brower, and children, Lorie Brower, Delon (Susan) Brower, Malyn (Marley) Perkins, Darin (Michelle) Brower, Danet (Steve) Larson, Delmer, (Ann Michelle) Brower and Janae Brower. He leaves 18 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren, and is survived by his brother Kirk (Leah Jane) Brower and his sister Cherie (John) Cotton. He was preceded in death by his parents Alden and Audron Brower and his older brother Jerry.

Owen was born on January 5, 1939 to Alden Carl and Audron Miles Brower, in Star Valley Wyoming. Having an older brother, a younger brother and a sister. Owen grew up on his parent’s farm valuing hard work and family. He loved anything mechanical, small animals and was an excellent singer.

Owen attended Ricks College, where he met and married Myrla Thayn. After the birth of their daughter Lorie, they moved to Brigham City, Utah where he worked at Thiokol. Delon was born and they moved to Logan, Utah to complete his degree in economics from Utah State University.

Owen was employed at USU initially in shipping and receiving and moved on to work as a purchasing agent. Malyn, Darin, Danet, Delmer and Janae were born, completing the Brower family. Always a hard worker, he worked long after he finished his day at the office. He had natural mechanical ability and learned to repair appliances, lay carpeting, repair electrical systems and meet endless other household maintenance needs. These abilities were used to help support his family financially, give his children an opportunity to learn and work, and help others who were in need.

Owen’s greatest joy was found in his family. He was devoted to his parents, siblings, wife, children, grandchildren and extended family. However he was not known as grandpa, but as “Big Buddy”, and they were not grandkids, but his “buddies”.

As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, he served throughout his life, including teaching, activities, counselor in a bishopric and served as a temple worker.

After suffering nerve damage due to cervical spinal stenosis, Owen worked with determination to return to work and regain as many abilities as possible. He endured the challenges he faced as his health declined with humor and strength. His family is grateful for the eternal families, and he will be lovingly remembered for his friendliness, humor and devotion.
