Owen D Christensen

July 8, 1936 — September 19, 2015

Owen Darrell Christensen was welcomed home on Saturday September 19, 2015. He was born July 8, 1936 to Arnold F. and Rachel Scheiss. He grew up in Providence, Utah with six brothers and two sisters. They were very active youngsters. He attended elementary school in Providence, and South Cache High School, where he excelled in numerous sports. While there he met Nita Buist Larsen, who would often skip class to watch him practice. They later married on April 20, 1956, in the Logan Temple, and spent 53 glorious years together. They began their married life in Salt Lake City, later moved to Providence, and settled in Wellsville.
They were blessed with four children: Michael (Melanie), Cindy (Brian) Gardner, Terri (Richard) Boudrero, and Kim (deceased). His family was the highlight of his life, and enjoyed following them through their sports and achievements. He has eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He supported his six grandsons on their missions and was so proud of their accomplishments. Mom and Dad thrived on ballgames and didn’t miss many, but were just as thrilled with the dance and piano recitals that they attended. Nita passed away in 2009, and missed the greatest joy, which are the great-grandchildren. Somehow we know that she snuck back into the stands to watch him be inducted into the Utah Softball Hall of Fame.
He was a master tile-setter. Many of the finest homes in Cache Valley have his craftsmanship. He was an active member of the church, and served in various callings. He remained active in sports all throughout his marriage. He enjoyed the outdoors, camping, fishing, hunting, and spent a lot of time with his family and many friends. Dad always had a beautiful garden that he enjoyed sharing with everyone.
He is survived by his children, and all of his brothers and sisters: Florence Holtshouser, AJ, Dave, Wes, Katherine Widman, Ivan, Ralph and Lynn Christensen. As well as his in-laws, cousins, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife and son. He was a very tenderhearted person, who was thoughtful, and kind to everyone. In his eyes, a stranger was just a friend that he hadn’t met. He taught us to work hard, play hard and enjoy life. We miss you, love you, and hope you’re happy with mom. A special thanks to the many doctors and to the hospice workers who went above and beyond in the last week.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday evening, September 22, 2015, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center in Logan and again on Wednesday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 AM at the Wellsville Stake Center on the corner of Center and Main. A private family graveside service will be held later. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.allenmortuaries.net
