Phyllis Campbell

June 28, 1931 — November 29, 2017

Beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother Phyllis Marie (Goddard) Campbell, age 86, passed away November 29, 2017 in Sunnyvale, California. Phyllis grew up in rural Southern Illinois, the oldest of 6 children. She earned her Bachelor’s degree at Southern Illinois University and her Master’s at University of Illinois. She married William F Campbell in 1954; he passed away in 2010.

Phyllis was a lifelong educator. Her father died suddenly when she was 19 so Phyllis, armed with a year of college courses and an intrepid spirit, supported the family by teaching all 8 grades in a one-room country schoolhouse. Once she completed her education, she continued her career in Illinois and Michigan. After moving to Logan, she taught in the Cache County School District, first at Sky View and then at North Park and Greenville Elementary schools. She was named the district’s Teacher of the Year 1995-96.

She furthered her education with many courses at Utah State University, attended conferences, and served on many committees. She was active in the First Presbyterian Church, her bridge clubs, and, with Bill, in USU Emeriti. She volunteered at the Global Villages Gift Shop. She loved to travel and visited too many countries to list. She welcomed people into her home, loved a good joke, and made friends everywhere she went. She dedicated herself to sharing a life well-lived with her family.

In recent years, Phyllis lived in California near her daughters and several grandchildren and enjoyed many family events, outings, and holidays.

She is survived by her children, Julia (Jim), David (Cynthia), Kelly, and Kirsten (Dave), several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, 3 sisters, a brother, and many nieces, nephews, and in-laws. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and a sister.

The family invites all to services this Friday, 8 December, at 12:00 pm at the First Presbyterian Church, 12 South 2nd West, Logan, UT; and to visitation at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street, Logan, UT on Thursday, 7 December, 6:00-8:00 pm. Interment will be in Logan City Cemetery at 10:30 AM on Friday prior to the services.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers a contribution to the William F. and Phyllis M. Campbell Scholarship Endowment through the Center for Women and Gender, 0186 Old Main Hill, Utah State University, Logan, UT, www.USU.edu/Campbell . This scholarship is awarded annually to
