Rex Anderson Zilles

Rex Anderson Zilles passed away peacefully on March 19, 2018, surrounded by loved ones. He died following a short bout with influenza and pneumonia.
Rex was born August 24, 1929, to Lillie Anderson Zilles and Theodore John Zilles. He was the sixth of nine children. Rex grew up in Young Ward and later moved to College Ward where he spent most of his life. Rex attended South Cache High School graduating in 1947.
Rex served in the United States Army, stationed in Germany, from 1951 to 1953. After a long courtship, he married Betty Lou Yonk on April 2, 1953, in the Logan LDS Temple.
Rex attended Utah State University and pursued his dream of owning and operating a registered Holstein dairy farm. He was often found milking, working in his fields or showing his prized cows. Rex loved the outdoors; hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, horseback riding, and camping were some of his favorites.
Rex was an active member of the LDS church. He served in various church callings including bishopric, high council, temple worker, teacher, and home teacher.
His most prized possession was his family. He is survived by his wife Betty Lou, his children Dave Zilles (Kathy), Gordon Zilles (Cindy), Rexann Edwards (Dave), Ross Zilles (Lori), Heidi Pakuch (Peter), brother Ray Jacob, and sisters Wanda Gore and Sherri Nettles. Rex and Betty Lou have 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Lillie and Theodore, his brothers Ariel Zilles and Deloy Zilles, and his sisters Elda Jorgenson, Ellen Smith, and Margene Lowe.
Funeral services are under the direction of Allen-Hall Mortuary and will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 24, at the College Ward LDS Chapel, 2394 West 2200 South, College Ward, Utah. A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 23, at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street Logan, Utah, and prior to the services Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the College Ward LDS Chapel. Burial will take place at the Mendon City Cemetery with full military honors. Condolences may be expressed online at www.allenmortuaries.net
