Rulen C Ladle
January 23, 1920 — April 27, 2018
Our loving Father, Grand, and great Grandfather passed away peacefully early Friday morning, April 27th, (about the time he would be milking the cows). Awaiting him with outstretched arms was a loving Father in Heaven and his wonderful mother, father, and siblings. We can just hear them say, “What took you so long?”
He was born Jan 23rd, 1920 in Mendon, Utah. Born to goodly parents, Nancy Ellen and “Charlie” Ladle, he was the fourth out of five children.
Rulen graduated from South Cache High School. Four years later he married his “Honey” Lorna Petersen from Newton on Oct 27th, 1942 in the Salt Lake Temple. They celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary last October.
Twenty-eight months into their marriage, Rulen was drafted and went to serve his country in WWII. He was sent to the Philippines and later Japan. He felt honored to serve, making beach landings and returned home “without a scratch.”
Other than his military service, he has lived his whole life in Mendon. His main love was farming. Out of high school, he stated purchasing land to farm. He was happiest being on the tractor, whistling while milking cows, and hauling milk. He first started hauling milk on a flat bed truck with old fashioned milk cans and later to hauling milk with a tanker truck. Gossner Cheese Company was so good to him. Seldom could he pass up getting a treat of an ice cream cone while emptying his tanker truck. His wife would say, “He always found someone to talk with.” He loved people and would always wave to people from his truck.
He served Mendon City as recorder, councilman, and two terms as Mayor. He has been active in the LDS church, serving as Bishop, high councilman and later as a Stake Patriarch for the Wellsville and Mendon Stakes. In 1985 he started working as a Temple Officiator in the Logan LDS Temple. In November of 1988 President Thomas S. Monson set him apart as a sealer in the Logan Temple where he served for twenty-six years.
He enjoyed fishing with friends and traveling to many places. He loved family visits, celebrations and he loved to “work”.
Rulen was preceded in death by his father, Charles Ladle, mother Nancy Ellen Ladle, two sisters, Grace Miles and Stella Spackman, two brothers, Orvel and Leo. He is survived by his beloved wife, Lorna, Children Bob, Karine (Paul) Cressall, eight grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held Friday, May 4, 2018 at 11:00 am at the Mendon Stake Center, 460 South 100 East, Mendon, UT. A viewing will be held on Thursday evening, May 3, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street in Logan, and prior to the services on Friday at the stake center from 9:30-10:30 am.
