Rulon S Albrechtsen

March 12, 1933 — June 18, 2017

Rulon S Albrechtsen, 84, North Logan, Utah valiantly completed his experiences in mortality and continued his eternal progression on Sunday June 18, 2017. He was born March 12, 1933 at Emery, Utah to Marion S. and Leona Snow Albrechtsen. He married his eternal companion Karma Jean Hooper on June 4, 1959 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They are grateful and proud parents of six children, 27 grandchildren, two great grandchildren and one expected this fall.

Rulon received a BS degree in Agronomy and an MS degree in Plant Breeding from Utah State University. He received a PhD from Purdue University in Genetics and Plant Breeding. He had a successful career as a professor and researcher that included six years at South Dakota State University and over 30 years at Utah State University. Rulon developed and released several improved varieties of wheat, barley, oats, and flax that are beneficial to many growers.

Rulon and Karma enjoyed a full-time LDS Mission in the Asia Area, serving in Hong Kong. Rulon faithfully served in many church callings including Branch President, District President, Bishop, Logan Temple Ordinance Worker and Gospel Doctrine Teacher. He has an unwavering testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ and the eternal nature of families.

His greatest treasure is his family and he always magnified his calling as patriarch of his family. He loved to spend time with his sweetheart and held her hand at every opportunity, especially on their evening walks together. He always supported his children and grandchildren and was excited to tell others about them and their activities. He is an accomplished woodworker and gardener, but most enjoyed spending time with his family.

He is survived by his eternal companion Karma Jean, children Doug (Connie) Albrechtsen, Annette (Brett) King, Julie (Gerald) Osborne, Janet (Kurt) Foster, Brad (Kristy) Albrechtsen, Ken (Diane) Albrechtsen, 27 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 24 at 12 noon in the North Logan 2nd Ward LDS Chapel, 1105 East 2100 North, North Logan, Utah under the direction of Bishop Clay Carter. A viewing will be Friday, June 23 from 6:00-8:00 pm, and Saturday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 am, both at the 2nd Ward building. Rulon will be laid to rest at the North Logan, Utah Cemetery.
