Sarah Darley Bradfield

May 19, 1915 — August 27, 2015

Sarah Darley Bradfield passed away August 27, 2015 at Logan, Utah. She was born May 19, 1915, in Wellsville, Utah to James Earl and May Maria Leishman Darley. She was the second of four children.

Sarah grew up on a ranch at Portage, Utah. Life on the ranch was hard work and always an adventure. She and her older brother would ride a hose to school. Sarah always had chores to do from feeding the animals, helping in the garden, herding cattle in the canyon and keeping the predators away, riding the derrick fork horse to hoist hay into the barn. She loved to play baseball with her brothers. She played short stop on the Garland City team in a championship game and made the winning catch much to her surprise and enjoyment. As a teenager she began researching their family history which she faithfully continued throughout her life.

She served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints to the Northwestern States Mission serving in Washington, Oregon, and northern California. She married Eldon Mont Bradfield in the Logan,Utah temple October 11, 1939. After their marriage they settled in Hilt, CA where Eldon continued to work in the lumber mills. She would wash their clothes on a board in a borrowed tub thus she was very excited when they were able to purchase their own wash tub. During WWII, living on the coast, she took her turn watching the California coast skyline day or night for enemy aircraft. In 1943 they returned to Wellsville where Eldon took up farming. She worked at various jobs to supplement their income. Eventually they moved to Logan where Eldon took a job with the university and she with the church. She knitted, crocheted and loved to make beautiful quilts for her family. She loved her family and the gospel. Family history was her passion. She was a family history consultant at the Logan LDS library for many years and has spent many hours over her 100 year’s researching her own family history. Her family history service is greatly appreciated by many on both sides of the veil.

She was preceded in death by her husband Eldon Mont Bradfield, her parents, James Earl and May Maria Leishman Darley, a sister Vonda Maughan, two brothers Earl and Coy Darley, and one grandson. Surviving are sons Eldon Kent Bradfield, Lorraine, Hillsboro, OR; Norris Lyle Bradfield, Patsy, Logan, UT; Dale Bradfield, Pamela; Redwood City, CA; 29 grand and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E. Center St., Logan, Utah on Monday, August 31, 2015 at 11:00 AM with a viewing prior from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. A viewing will also be held at the mortuary on Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. Interment will be in the Logan City Cemetery.
