Steven Lee Casteel

August 15, 1954 — January 20, 2016

Our Husband, Dad, Grandpa, Scoutmaster, and Friend returned peacefully to his loving Father in Heaven on Wednesday evening, January 20, 2016, at the Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City, UT at the age of 61.
Steve was 110% dedicated to everything that he chose to do or be involved with. He was always in a hurry, and always felt the need to have a packed agenda while he was here on earth. Steve was born August 15, 1954 to Virginia and Stanton Casteel in Logan, UT. He was raised in Providence, UT where he grew up with wonderful friends and recalled many fond memories of pranks, mischief, speeding tickets, and main street drag races. He was always a kid at heart and carried his fun-loving, prank-ridden, and mischievous ways throughout his life. He was always positive in nature and this carried to the end even to the point of playing pranks on the nurses that took such great care of him, and truly loving all he met.
Steve had many hobbies which included; scouting, gardening, camping, hunting, dutch oven cooking, fishing, and was a talented steering wheel drummer. He spent a great deal of his life working in the scouting program touching the lives of countless young men, and helping many achieve their rank of Eagle Scout. He often spoke of wonderful memories spent at Scout Camps, Klondike Derbies, Scout-O-Ramas, and Merit Badge Pow-Wows. He proudly earned his “Silver Beaver Award” and “Longevity in Scouting Award”, with over 40 years of service.
Steve worked for the past 30 years at ATK Thiokol, where he was a dedicated, hard-working employee, and was loved by all.
His greatest love in life was his family! Steve married his high school sweetheart, Christy Allred, on June 28, 1974, in the Logan LDS Temple and he loved her dearly. They enjoyed several trips to Yellowstone, the Tetons, and many weekends camping in the great outdoors. He often spoke of the Tetons as his “sanctuary” and left a piece of his heart there.
He was best known as Grandpa Steve spending much of his time giving four-wheeler rides, making his famous Mickey Mouse pancakes, going on milkshake dates, wrestling, attending rodeos, instigating water fights, cheering at sporting events, hunting, fishing, and teaching his grandkids how to work.
Steve is survived by his beautiful wife, Christy of Wellsville, UT; four children and their spouses, Darrell (Kelly) Casteel, Lehi, UT; Jeremy (Samantha) Casteel, Logan, UT; Mindy (Bret) Bywater, Hyrum, UT; Stephanie (Koltn) Archibald, Nibley, UT; and 14 grandchildren.
He is also survived by his mother, Virginia Casteel, and his siblings Debbie Larsen, Kathy Clayton, Christine Wilson, Jim Casteel, and Carolyn Casteel. He is preceded in death by his Grandparents, his father, his father and mother-in-law, and his dear friend Kevin Westover.
A formal viewing will be held Monday, January 25, 2016, from 6-8 pm, at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Logan, UT. Funeral services will be held at noon, Tuesday, January 26th, at the Wellsville Stake Center, 30 South Center, Wellsville, UT with a viewing from 10:30- 11:30 am. Burial will be at the Wellsville City Cemetery with services under the direction of Allen-Hall Mortuary. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.allenmortuaries.net . Scouting attire is welcome.
