Wendell Evans Lewis

July 9, 1928 — April 24, 2015

Wendell Evans Lewis passed away April 24, 2015 in Providence, Utah, at his home . He left
this earth peacefully, and quietly, the same way he lived his life.
Wendell was born July 9, 1928, in Logan, Utah, to Edward (Ted) Lewis, Jr., and Virginia Evans
Lewis. He attended Logan City Schools, graduating from Logan High School, and Utah State
University.
He married Ruth Ann Mitton on a snowy winter day, February 23, 1951, in the Logan LDS
Temple.
Upon completion of his education, Wendell was called to the U.S. Army for two years serving
18 months in Korea. Living in a tent, with one guard on a hill, he was a cryptographer for the
Army sending messages to the Navy and Air Force pilots on where to drop their air strikes.
Wendell worked at his chosen profession as an accountant for Jack's Tire, Thiokol
Chemical Company, Dee Wangsgaard Insurance, and Logan City.
Wendell and Ruth Ann moved their family to Las Vegas in 1969 taking a job in the Comptroller's
office of Clark County, Nevada. He worked there faithfully for 25 years. He was a valued employee, known to arrive early and stay late; dependable, steady and honest everywhere he worked. These were busy years for both he and Ruth Ann, they also made time traveling to Europe, Hawaii, and Japan making wonderful memories.
Wendell and Ruth Ann returned to Utah to enjoy their retirement years and family in 2006.
They lived in Providence. Wendell was a supporter to USU Athletics and attended football and
basketball games as long as his health permitted. He and Ruth Ann enjoyed years attending the Utah Shakespeare and Festival Opera as patrons. He will miss his daily visit to McDonald's for his small drink, paper reading, and saying “hi” to his many friends there.
He was a High Priest in the Providence 4th Ward and served as a Ward Clerk in three separate
wards in his life. Wendell was an active supporter of the Scouting Program. He was a member of
Logan Golf and Country Club so he could play golf with his two sons. Serving on the Nevada
Retirement Board, his hobbies were his work, Church, games, and plays. He enjoyed his family, especially his great-grandchildren most of all in his last years.
Wendell is survived by his wife of 64 years Ruth Ann, and his sons, Alan (Teresa) Lewis of
Logan, and Clair (Suzan) Lewis of Henderson, Nevada, his sister in law Marcene Burns of Salt Lake
City, plus six grandchildren all living in the valley, Nickolas, Keith, Kent, and Andrea Lewis, Tiffiny
Fairbanks, and Toni Beck, and 10 great-grandchildren. He was proceeded in death by his parents,
brother Reid E. Lewis, and an infant sister Laurene Lewis.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 29, at Noon at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East
Center, in Logan. A viewing will be held at Allen-Hall Mortuary Tuesday, April 28 from 6 to 8 pm and
before the service 10:30am to 11:30 am Wednesday. Interment will be in the Logan City Cemetery.
