Alene Edwards Felix

November 13, 1928 — August 24, 2018

Our dear mother Alene Edwards Felix was called home August 24, 2018. She passed away in Hyde Park, Utah a few months short of her 90th birthday. Born November 13, 1928 in Provo, Utah to Philo Taylor and Addie May Gurr Edwards, Alene was the seventh of 14 children, sister to Ruby, Don, Max, Melba, LaMar, Norma, LaVell, Lewis, Wayne, Colleen, Shirley, Ray, and Janice. She dearly loved all of her siblings and was close to them throughout her life. She had a fun filled childhood in Orem, Utah with her many friends and her brothers and sisters, attended Orem schools and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1947. Following graduation, she attended Brigham Young University for a year and then worked in the offices of Geneva Steel Mill. In 1949 Alene left Utah to fill an LDS mission in the Texas-Louisiana Mission where she met her sweetheart Joseph Felix from Logan, Utah. At the request of the Mission President, Joe and Alene were asked to sing a duet, “I Stand All Amazed,” for an interdenominational music festival. This was the beginning of a 64 year romance.

Married February 7, 1951 in the Salt Lake Temple, Joe and Alene built their family in Logan, UT, Ashton, ID, Flagstaff, AZ, Provo, UT and settled in Cedar City, UT with their 10 children, Brent (Loralyn), Rozan Gautier (Brad), Jolyn Russell (Craig), Jeffrey, David (Mari), Daren (Margie), Adele Onaga (Stephen), Sheri James (Al), Ben (Heather), and Michael (Shelly). From this large family 36 grandchildren and 54 great-grandchildren have been born into a welcoming and vibrant family.
Alene lived a remarkable life of service. She was a loving and involved mother. She was a wonderful neighbor and friend. She served tirelessly in church service and was an involved community member. Alene and Joseph’s early retirement years were marked by five additional missions. They include: Denmark, Copenhagen (Iceland) '88-'90; Philippines, Cebu '91-'93; Austria, Vienna (Croatia) '94-'95; New Zealand, Wellington '97-'98; and Laie Oahu, Hawaii '99-‘01.
Alene is survived by her children, siblings Ruby, Lewis, Wayne, Colleen and Shirley, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Alene will be held Monday August 27, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at the Hyde Park 1st Ward Chapel (450 N. 100 W., Hyde Park, UT). A viewing will be held that morning 10:30a.m.-12:30p.m. at the same location.
Our warmest thanks and gratitude to the Autumn Care staff for their genuine love and constant care.
