Berneice Buttars Griffin

March 11, 1915 — October 22, 2017

Berneice Buttars Griffin returned to her heavenly home October 22, 2017 reuniting with her husband, Joseph T. Griffin, her parents, and all of her siblings. Berneice was born March 11, 1915 in Clarkston, UT, the 10th of 12 children of Thomas James Buttars and Annie Elizabeth Loosle. She married Joseph Thomas Griffin October 10, 1934 in the Logan Temple. They enjoyed 80 years of married life together. One of their joys was serving in the Logan Temple for 16 years.

Berneice served in various callings in her church (ward & stake). She served for over 30 years as ward and choir organist. She was self-taught in music and loved and encouraged all to learn and expand their musical talents. She also sang duets singing in many meetings and funerals.

Berneice loved to learn new things. After raising her children to adulthood, she took courses and became a dental assistant to Dr. Clyde Hurst, which she enjoyed for many years. She served as the State of Utah Dental Assistant State President.

Berneice spent many years caring for others - parents, in-laws, a sister and her husband as well as serving her immediate family

Family was very important to Berneice and she had great, love and concern for them. She was a woman of great faith and always stressed the importance of it to her family.

She is survived by her son, Bruce T. (Joan) Griffin, of Harrisville, UT and daughter, Dorcas G. Johnson, of North Ogden, UT. Seven grandchildren who were like children to her: Suzanne (Garth) Doxey (Roy, UT); Julie (Blair) Van Wagoner (Winter Spring, FL), Joseph B. (Andrea) Griffin (Layton UT); Kevin (Darlene) Johnson (Las Vegas, NV); Michelle (C. Ray) Coleman (Sandy, UT); Jared (Lynette) Johnson (New Market MD): Quinn (Tabitha) Johnson, (Columbia MO), 27 great-grandchildren and 22 great great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband), parents, siblings and all of their spouses.

The family expresses appreciation for the friendships, kindness and caring of Pioneer Valley Lodge Retirement Center management teams and very special friends residing there over the past 10 years. A special thanks to Integrity Home Care/Hospice, Logan Regional Hospital and Maple Springs of North Logan personnel for their extraordinary loving care and services.

Services will be held Saturday October 28, 2017 at 11 am at the Allen Mortuary of North Logan located at 1800 N 420 E in North Logan, Utah. There will be a viewing prior to the services from 9:30 am to 10:30 am.

Interment will be at the Clarkston Cemetery.
