Clarence John Bohm

August 23, 1922 — July 30, 2018

Clarence John Bohm (95) was born Aug. 23, 1922 and died July 30, 2018 at 95 years old. He grew up in Hinsdale, Illinois. He was the son of Stephen Frank Bohm and Rose Cada. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Stephen Bohm who was stillborn and Harry Stephen Bohm. He helped his parents by caring for their family’s public swimming pool where he was also a lifeguard. Having spent so much of his time at the pool, he became an excellent swimmer. Marian often would comment how handsome he looked coming off the high dive and how sleek he was swimming strokes at the pool. He served over three years in the army medical core in Burma during World War II. He was married to Marian Elaine Hybl on May 4, 1946. He has three sons, Bruce Clare Bohm (Judy), Lance William Bohm (Brenda), and Dale Martin Bohm (Susie) and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Clare moved to Sandy, Utah in 1949 where he purchased a home and mink ranch and where his three sons were born and raised. He made a good living for his family raising fine quality mink. He loved to reload and make the most accurate loads for target shooting and hunting. One could say that he had a Ph.d. in ballistics. After he retired from mink ranching, he worked part time for the forest service and at a car wash. Clare loved the out of doors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved to travel with his sweet wife to most major destinations world wide and visited all the continents with the exception of Antarctica. He enjoyed taking his family on trips and one of the most memorable ones was up the Alcan Highway in a truck and camper caravan to Babbit Island Camp on the outlet of Great Slave Lake, Northwest Territories, Canada. He was married to his loving wife, Marian, for over 72 years. He was a great example of loving devotion and faithfulness and always put his family first in his life. He would often be caught gazing at Mom, then would swiftly say, “Isn’t she beautiful!” He loved to spend time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. The in return adored him. He would take them hunting, fishing, and even mountain biking in his late 70’s. Clare had a contagious smile that would make anyone feel better. His parting words were often, “watch out for the big trucks.” It was obvious that he loved and cared for your happiness and well-being.

Their son, Dale, wrote, “Dad loved his family, treasured his friends, and had a passion for travel, hunting and raising mink. He met his wife Marian at their family swimming pool in Hinsdale, Illinois when she was 16 and he wrote letters to her while stationed in Burma during World War 2. Soon after the war, Mom and Dad were married on May 4th, 1946 and moved to Logan, Utah so Dad could attend Utah State University. Along the way, Dad became interested in raising mink and decided to make it a career. After the birth of their three sons, Bruce, Lance and Dale, Dad topped the sale at the New York fur auction and was the #1 mink rancher in the nation. Dad enjoyed being outdoors and taking his three sons hunting and fishing . Both Mom and Dad were avid travelers and took their ‘boys’ on many of their adventures to Hawaii, Canada, Mexico, Tahiti, Czech Republic, New Zealand and Australia. They also traveled together to China, Europe, Africa and South America.”

There was a celebration of his life meeting held Saturday Aug. 4th at Legacy House, 330 E. 1400 N. in Logan from 3 to 4 PM. A graveside service will be Saturday Aug. 11th at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 10600 S. 1700 E., Sandy, Utah at 2:30 PM. We thank all family and friends for their support of Mom and Dad!
