Dale Jay Bankhead

July 10, 1950 — April 26, 2022

It is with great sadness, we announce our beloved husband, father, grandfather, son and brother, Dale Jay Bankhead, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2022, in Wellsville, Utah. The greatest legacy he leaves behind is his love and devotion to the gospel of Jesus Christ and his cherished family. Born to Jay and Betty Bankhead on July 10, 1950, in Logan, Utah, he was the middle of three children, older sister, Paulette and younger sister, Valoy. He grew up working on his family’s farm, which is the oldest continuously owned family farm in Cache Valley, where he developed a love for farming and a strong work ethic.

Dale attended Wellsville Elementary, South Cache Junior High, and Sky View High School, where he wrestled and earned the nickname of “Lightning.” He enjoyed hunting and became an excellent sharpshooter. In 1969, he served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Auckland, New Zealand where he loved and served the people. Sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with everyone was a passion he developed and continued throughout his life. Upon returning home, Dale attended Utah State University studying education.

On December 1, 1972, Dale married Patricia Lynn Otten, the love of his life, in the Logan Utah Temple. Together, they raised 6 children while living in Wellsville on the family farm. They taught their children to work hard and to love the Lord. Throughout the years, the children spent many hours with Dad on the tractor and moving pipe which will forever be cherished memories. Dale and Patty’s pride and joy are their children and 21 grandchildren. Their love for their family is shown by their endless support. Their grandkids’ favorite place to be is at Grandma and Grandpa’s house.

Dale was an innovator in the irrigation industry, and was a pioneer of mechanized irrigation and agriculture. He took great pride in engineering creative ways to solve irrigation problems. Dale worked for Bullen’s Inc. for 25 years in the irrigation industry, and then went on to start his own business, Circle B Irrigation, with his sons in 2001.

In 2011, Dale established Farmer Dale Produce on a corner of the family farm. He was especially proud of growing his well known, one of a kind, “Sweet and Delicious Tomatoes.” He found great joy in growing healthy, fresh produce and having his grandchildren work with him on his farm.

Dale loved serving in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was currently serving with his wife, Patty, as primary teachers and as temple workers in the Logan Utah Temple. He loved to challenge his primary kids and grandkids to memorize scripture verses. Dale touched many lives through service to others, especially in his callings as Stake and Ward Young Men’s President, Bishop, Elder’s Quorum President, Scout and Varsity Leader, and Priest Quorum Advisor. He had a special gift of mentoring the youth and visiting the widows.

Dale is survived by his wife, Patty and their 6 children, Diane (Ken) Albrechtsen, Jay (Uyen) Bankhead, Kurt (Lindy) Bankhead, Kathy (Kevin) Jones, Lisa (Jordan) Leishman, John (Ashlie) Bankhead and their 21 grandchildren, younger sister, Valoy (Rick) Reese and mother, Betty Bankhead. He is preceded in death by his father, Jay Bankhead and his sister, Paulette Balle.
