Del Lorenzo Bullen

January 19, 1932 — February 10, 2019

Del Lorenzo Bullen, 87, passed away February 10, 2019, at the Gables Assisted Living and Memory Care Center in Logan, Utah.
He was born at home in Richmond, Utah, to Lorenzo J. Bullen and Matilda Leona Johnson on January 19, 1932. Del was the third child in the family of four daughters and two sons. One of his favorite early memories as a kid was going with Grandpa Johnson to Lava Hot Springs to swim and going home through Soda Springs, Idaho, where they would make a drink from lemon juice, sugar and soda water from the soda springs.
Del was a hard worker from a young age. One of his first jobs was driving an old steel wheeled wagon and two horses to Trenton to load hay. He would be gone all day and earned a silver dollar. He also topped beets as a young boy for $6.00 an acre and delivered newspapers. He enjoyed ice skating, basketball, football, track and scouts. His senior year he won the Music Award and several contests with his guitar. He had a beautiful tenor voice and sang at many church events and school programs.
Del loved cars and bought his first car when he was 16. It was a 36 Ford 2 door that cost $284.00. Later he developed a passion for restoring old cars and especially loved mustangs. One of his greatest joys was going on car tours with Elaine and the Cache Valley Cruise Club. Del worked for Pet Milk Company where he learned to become a machinist. He would develop an amazing talent for building gears and rebuilding turbines as an employee for Utah Power and Light Company. He also had his own machine shop and made gears for various companies and individuals for many years.
Del was an active member in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served in various positions including a counselor in the MIA, Elders Quorum, and Sunday School. He was on the High Council for 9 years and served with Elaine in the Logan Temple for over 14 years. Del loved working in his yard and garden. Peas and corn from his garden were a must every summer until his death.
Del is survived by his six children. Shanna Gibbons (Mark) of Lewiston, Utah. Linda Laird (John) of Highland, Utah. Michael Bullen of Tremonton, Utah; Cindy Bonamarte of Campobello, South Carolina; Tina Bullen of Bountiful, Utah, and Hollie Bullen of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin; eighteen grandchildren and twenty-eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine Nielsen Bullen, a daughter, Cheri Lynn Bullen, brother Bobby Winston Bullen, two sisters; BarDee Olsen, and Rose Marie HammondCottrell, and his parents Lorenzo and Leona Bullen.
Del’s family extends our gratitude for the care and consideration provided by Hollie and Lacey from the Community Nursing Services and Rachel and all her wonderful staff at the Gables in Logan, Utah.
