Derrik A H Jenkins

August 27, 1990 — November 3, 2018

Jenkins, Derrik A. H.– of Pleasant Grove, age 28, left this earth while running half way to heaven. It is believed he slipped while trail running the Box Elder South Peak up American Fork Canyon on October 31, 2018. A three day search resulted in the miracle of finding his body before winter set on. His family is in awe and full of gratitude of the many people: professionals, the hiking/running community, family, friends and strangers who came to search, pray, donate food and other items, and show love and support. The insurmountable amount of love felt on those three days of searching was breathtaking and palpable. Thank you for your prayers, they are keeping our family afloat.
Derrik was born in Vernal, Ut. After living there two years, he and his mother moved to Logan, Utah where she could graduate from Utah State University. There he met his father, Shane Jenkins who helped raise him to become the amazing young man that he was. While living in Logan, he was blessed with two younger brothers. Derrik’s family moved when he was nine to Minden, Nevada where his little sister was born a year later. While growing up in Nevada, he accomplished many things. He loved basketball, cross country, and track; setting several school records before graduating. He worked hard to become an Eagle Scout and earned his Duty to God recognition.
Derrik went to BYU Provo his first year out of high school before serving in the Honduras Comayaguela Mission for two years. He then returned to BYU where he graduated in 2016 from the school of Engineering. He worked for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints in Riverton, Ut in the Informational Communication Services supporting seminary and institute programs. Derrik married Shannon Earnshaw in August of 2014 and had two precious angels with her before the end of their marriage. Shiloh was the light of his life, soon to be followed by Lily eighteen months later. He was an amazing father and loved to be outdoors exploring with his girls. Derrik was working toward moving closer to his daughters who had recently moved to another state. After a rough couple of years, Derrik had met an amazing young woman and was in a good place in his life.
He is survived by Father and Mother: Shane and Kimberly Jenkins; three siblings: Levi (Moriah), Gardnerville, NV; Braedon and Laurel, both of Hyde Park, Ut; his daughters Shiloh and Lily, and his biological father, Alan Hutcheon; in addition to grandparents, aunts, uncles and many cousins who loved and looked up to him dearly. He is preceded in death by his biological grandmother, Joyce Hutcheon.
