Doris Francis Hanks

September 30, 1928 — August 10, 2019

Doris Francis Hanks passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2019, at the age of 90. Doris was born on September 30, 1928 in Lake Shore, Utah to Wendell James and Velma Bellows Francis. She grew up in Lake Shore, with her home being in the back of the small country store that her father ran and owned. Doris had a happy childhood with her parents and two sisters, Karma and Marlene. Her mother died when she was 10, which was a great sorrow in her life.
Doris went to Spanish Fork High School, and then college at Brigham Young University. There she fell in love with John Hanks, and they were married in the SLC temple. Their marriage was one of love, adventure and laughter. Doris and John lived in Provo, Wisconsin, Kansas, Colorado, and finally North Logan. They were blessed with 6 children: Jerri Zollinger (Lorin), John (Sue), Chris Dewey (Steve), Curt (Nancy), Joseph (deceased), and Kay Lyn Cardon (Grant), plus foster-daughter Elaine DeVore.
After John’s retirement, Doris and John loved serving two missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The first one was at the Family History Center in Salt Lake City. The second mission was in Australia where John and Doris served with the Farm Management Company for the Church. She remained a steadfast member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout her life, serving faithfully in every calling.
Doris was a wonderful mother, companion to John, and friend to many. She loved to travel around the world with John, especially to Israel, where she had many wonderful friends. She was a great cook, kept a beautiful home, and was constantly serving others. All of her children, 26 grandchildren and 65 great-grandchildren loved her dearly, and wanted to be with her whenever they could.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John, an infant son, Joseph, a grandchild Stacia Cardon, and Brother-in-law, Ray Huff. Funeral services will be held this Saturday, August 17, 2019, 12 noon at the North Logan 1st& 2nd Ward building, 1105 E 2100 N, in North Logan. A closed casket visitation will be held before the funeral, on Saturday from 10:30-11:30 at the same location. Burial will be in the Logan City Cemetery.
