Douglas & Shirley Bangerter

d. November 3, 2017

Douglas Dean Bangerter, and Shirley Lorraine Kent Bangerter, our wonderful parents passed away within hours of each other after spending 68 years together. Mom led the way after suffering a heart attack in the afternoon on Thursday, November 2nd and Dad followed suffering a broken heart 12 hours later on Friday morning, November 3rd, 2017.
Douglas Dean Bangerter was born on May 17, 1929 in the family home on north Main Street in Bountiful, Utah. Shirley Lorraine Kent Bangerter was born in Nibley, Utah on November 30, 1929.
Douglas spent his early years in Bountiful, while Shirley lived in Cache Valley, Utah, Manhattan Beach, California and Layton Utah. They met at Davis High School and Dad followed Mom to Utah State Agricultural College, fearing some other guy would catch her eye. But luckily for us, Dad persuaded her to become his wife and they were married September 23, 1949, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were blessed with four sons and one daughter, Kent Douglas, Shauna (John Maas), Kevin Scott (Cynthia), Gregory Dean (Cindy) and Brian Richard (Jeana). They built their home and family on the principles of hard work, fun vacations and unconditional love.
Dad worked long hours at the family wholesale produce company with his father, mother and brothers, while Mom also worked long hours making a wonderful home for us to grow up in. They had many lifelong friends and were blessed by caring neighbors. They endeared themselves to many employees of local restaurants as they “grabbed a bite to eat” most every day for lunch in their later years.
Douglas was preceded in death by his parents, John Christian and Lucile Monson Bangerter, sister, Kathryn (Robert) Goodfellow, brothers, Jack (Connie) and Frank Bangerter. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents Otto Keith and Martha Leishman Kent, sisters, Linda Kent, Billie Eva, Beverly Craig. They are both survived by their children, 14 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, Douglas’s brother Jerald C. (Sandra) Bangerter, sister-in-law Lela Bangerter and Shirley’s sister, Yvonne Halvorson and brother Cortez (Kay) Kent and brother-in-law, Jay Craig.
A viewing will be held on Monday, November 6th, from 6:00-8:00 pm at the Canyon Park Ward LDS meetinghouse, 1190 East Bountiful Hills Drive, Bountiful, Utah.
A celebration of their lives together will be held on Tuesday, November 7th at 12:00, noon at the Bentwood Ward LDS meetinghouse, 1650 East 2600 North, North Logan, Utah. A viewing will be held prior from 10:30-11:30 am.
Burial will be at North Logan Cemetery. Condolences and thoughts may be expressed online at www.allenmortuaries.net .
