Elaine Jean Covert

May 31, 1946 — August 8, 2019

Elaine left this earthly life on Thursday, August 8, 2019, after a long and valiant battle with Lymphoma Cancer.
Elaine was born on May 31, 1946 in Lewellen, NE to Paul William Hatcher and Hazel Blanche Steward. Due to her Dad’s employment they moved often so Elaine and her two brothers, Larry Loraine Hatcher and Dwane Gale Hatcher, spent their younger years in Kansas and Colorado. After settling in Wichita, KS Elaine graduated from Southeast High School in 1964. Upon graduation she married Joseph “Butch” Golden and they made their home in Arkansas City, KS. They were blessed with one daughter, Jennifer Lynn Golden. They later divorced. Elaine worked at General Electric where she met her eternal love, Keith Abner Covert. They were married on July 13, 1979 and sealed in the Logan Temple. They moved to Hyrum, UT in November 1981 and Cache Valley became Elaine’s home. Keith passed away from cancer in June 1985.
Elaine was employed at Hillyard Anderson & Olsen from 1985-2011. She performed various legal secretarial duties, including paralegal, for Herm Olsen, although she never became certified. While at HAO she formed many close friendships and considered them her family. She retired June 1, 2011 after nearly 26 years.
Elaine was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints since her baptism in December 1976. She served in many callings, but especially enjoyed compassionate service. Her favorite calling was in assisting Brother Thad Carlson in preparing patriarchal blessings for the USU 7th and 9th stakes. Elaine faithfully lived the teachings of the gospel and set a wonderful example for all that knew her. After a two year battle with cancer, and 33 years of being widowed, she has now returned to the loving arms of her Heavenly Father and can be by Keith’s side again.
Elaine is survived by her brother, Larry Hatcher (Portola, CA), daughter, Jennifer Lynn Golden (Dan Smith), grandchildren Amanda J. Rose, Danner J. Obray and Courtnee K. Obray, great-grandchildren Adri Eric Rose and Kian B West, all of Hyrum, UT.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Hazel Hatcher, brother, Dwane Hatcher, husband, Keith Covert.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to IHC Hospice, and especially Bonnie Johnson, for the special care given to Elaine.
There will be a graveside service held at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 17th, at the Hyrum City Cemetery. Elaine had many friends that she held dearly in her heart, as well as, extended family – Elaine’s family would like to encourage everyone to attend that would like to.
