Emily Angela Frank Roberts

April 24, 1929 — November 17, 2018

Emily Angela Frank, daughter of Jacob and Mary (Budik) Frank, was born at 5 pm on Wednesday, April 24, 1929, in Olivia, Minnesota. Emily was the youngest of seven children and the only one born in a hospital.
Emily grew up on a rural farm. A typical day on the farm was playing house, school and store with her sister, and best friend, Barbara. The two girls also liked to climb haystacks, swing from the tire swing in the big oak tree, play with paper dolls and read comic books, especially Little Dot. Emily’s chores on the farm included, feeding the chickens and ducks, gathering eggs and weeding the garden. Emily had a love of animals and would spend many hours with her colt, Tony, and playing fetch with her dog.
Emily had wonderful siblings that helped her grow from child to adult. Ed would lift her high to touch the ceiling and would play card games with her. Stanley let her drive the tractor when she was 7; this made her feel grown up. Bessie made clothes for her and was a mother figure to her. Every evening, Christine would listen to the radio with her. Catherine helped her with her homework and always let her tag along when she ran errands.
Dancing was a big scene in the 1940’s. Emily and Barbara were at a dance when they met Sander Thoreson and his brother Nels. On November 14, 1946 Sander and Emily were married. Nels was the best man and Barbara was the maid of honor. Sander and Emily had five beautiful daughters: Linda (Russ) Clark, Peggy (Duane) Robinson, Nancy (Randall) Hansen, Lisa (Jon Paul) Bardole and Debra Morrison.
Emily was a hard worker. She raised her 5 daughters and went to nursing school. She graduated nursing school in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on June 2, 1970.
Emily met Fred Roberts at a VA dance. Fred was popular with the ladies but he only had eyes for Emily. Emily and Fred were married on April 17, 1970. Fred was a good man and loved her daughters as his own.
Emily lived in several different states, including, Minnesota, South Dakota, Virginia and Utah. She will be greatly missed by her 5 daughters, 4 sons-in-law, 19 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren.
Emily will be buried at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bluffdale, Utah next to her husband, Fred. A simple service will be held on Friday November 30, 2018 at 1 pm in the chapel at 17111 South Camp Williams Road, Bluffdale, Utah.
We are grateful for the journey shared with our Mother and Grandmother. Her feisty attitude, generous heart and love of animals will be greatly missed!
