Gayle Reena Swensen Hobbs

September 17, 1927 — January 24, 2019

Gayle Reena Swensen Hobbs, 91 was at last reunited with her sweetheart Virgil Hobbs, on Thursday January 24, 2019. Gayle was born September 17, 1927 to Royal and Norma Swensen in Logan, Utah. She was raised in Logan and attended Wilson Elementary, Logan Jr. High and Graduated from Logan High School in 1945.

She met her sweetheart, Virgil Hobbs at the Elite Hall in Hyrum, Utah. They were married on December 12, 1946 in Preston, Idaho and were later sealed in the Logan Temple in 1961.

Gayle held various positions in the Church; Teacher, Relief Society Quilting Chairman, Visiting Teacher, Singing Mothers, but her favorite position was the Guide Patrol.

She was a wonderful cook and homemaker and always kept a tidy home. She was a homemaker until her husband had a heart attack, and was unable to work. Mom began to work to support the family. She went to work at Montgomery Wards in Logan and then finished her career at Logan Regional Hospital. She became a temple worker where she served for 13 years.

Gayle was known for her compassionate service. Anyone who was sick, in need, or someone new in the neighborhood found mom at their door to render help and welcome them with a plate of goodies. Her speciality was her homemade candy and other treats around Christmas Time.

Mom loved to crochet, all of her grandchildren received a blanket along with many others. She loved to do yard work and could always be found in her roses at her home on the Island.

She lived in her home below the temple for 64 years then spent the last year at the Legacy Assisted Living where she passed away. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Virgil, her parents Royal and Norma Swensen, brothers Donald, John, Orion, and Richard, sister Carol, brother in-law Bill Wilson, son in-law Mike Henderson, grandson Jeff Hobbs and great granddaughter Ashlyn.

She is survived by her sister Clyla Wilson of Raymond, Washington, Sister in-law Rosalie Jones of Salt Lake, Her Six Children; Lynn Hobbs (Jeanette) of Logan, Steven (Shauna) of Providence, Linda Lee Andra of Eagle Mountain UT, Diane Moore (John) of Henefer, UT, LaDawn Henderson (Mike-Deceased) of Mountain View, WY and Rodney Glen Hobbs (Tara) of Millville, 36 Grandchildren and spouses, 119 Great Grandchildren, and 14 Great, Great Grandchildren as well as two special nephews Dana Swensen of Herriman UT, and Lonie Olsen of Salt Lake.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Legacy House for their love and care of mom during her stay with them. We also want to thank Dr. Welder, her primary care physician. We would like to thank Hospice and the tender care that Erin showed our mother at her passing. A special thank you to the Jens Johansen Park Ward for their compassion, love and help with mom.
