Gerald Joe Meier
March 11, 1954 — April 18, 2017
Gerald Joe Meier “Jerry” passed away peacefully the morning of April 18, 2017 at the age of 63 at his home in Smithfield, Utah. He was born March 11, 1954 in Logan, Utah, the youngest child of Richard Gerald “Dick” and Florence “Tutie” Meiers of Lewiston.
He grew up in Lewiston, learning to love the land and animals. His dad taught him handyman skills and there wasnʼt much Jerry couldnʼt fix. His mom raised a beautiful yard and garden and Jerry picked up those skills as well. He received his formal education with Cache County schools and graduated from Sky View High in 1972 then 2 years of college in automotive repairs.
On March 24, 1984 he married Jan Olson in Smithfield. One of Jerryʼs greatest joys in his life were his 3 sons, Anthony Gerald, Kelly Joe and Richard Scott. He also ʻadoptedʼ their friendsʼ kids as well as his nieces and nephews for whom he was a favorite.
Jerry worked as a mechanic most of his life, but has worked at Presto Products for the past 28 years and developed many GREAT friendships. He loved working on his ʼ57 Chevy, Harley-Davidson, John Deer and collecting Coca-Cola.
Jerry was a quiet, gentle man who would do anything for his fellow man. He also had an incredible sense of humor and loved to pull pranks. His absence leaves a huge hole in many hearts.
Those he leaves behind include his wife Jan of 33 years, sons Tony (Lindsay Leatham) and Scott, granddaughters Rilee and Hallie and grandsons Gunner and Sawyer and Liam McClain. He is also survived by his sisters Julia Manteufel of Lewiston, Utah and Colleen Armstrong of Idaho Falls, Idaho and numerous nieces and nephews and beloved extended family. He reunited in heaven with his much missed son Kelly Joe, his parents Dick and Tutie and in-laws Arland and Joan Olson.
A viewing will be held Sunday, April 23, 2017 from 6-8 pm at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street, Logan, Utah. Graveside services will be held Monday, April 24 at 11:00 am at the Smithfield City Cemetery, 3rd East and Center Street.
