Gilbert Kent Blau passed peacefully, surrounded by family September 24, 2017 in Hyde Park, UT at the age of 87. Gilbert is survived by his wife Barbara, and children; Justin (Ruth) Blau, Misa (John) Findlay, Tamara (Jon) McKenney, Hollie (Brian) Ottley, and 14 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Leeta Blau, and brother Adrian.
Gilbert was born June 18, 1930 in Logan County, Kansas. At age 5 his family moved to Nibley. He served in the Texas/Louisiana Mission for the LDS Church. He loved to serve the Lord, and he did so in many ways, including building LDS chapels. He met his future wife, Barbara Widerburg, while building churches in California. Sister Widerburg was serving an LDS Mission at the time, and five years later on April 3, 1970 they were married in the Salt Lake City Temple. Barbara joined Gilbert while continuing to build meetinghouses in Hawaii, Australia, Japan, and Taiwan. They settled in Cache Valley where they raised four children.
Gilbert loved gardening, farming, building, and working with his hands. He was often found puttering in his garden or taking a nap in his favorite chair under a tree. He built the family home on Hollow Road, along with high chairs, rocking chairs, toy boxes, book shelves, and anything else the family needed. He was a master of many trades, and could fix anything! He loved people and was always willing and ready to help others in need. He loved his grandkids, even though he never thought he would live to see any. He is now joyfully reunited with his parents and other family members who have passed on before. We love and miss you, and look forward to seeing you again.
