James Marvin Pond

June 13, 1931 — May 7, 2017

James Marvin Pond, 85, passed away Sunday May 7, 2017, from causes incident to age.
He was born June 13, 1931, to Martin Harris Pond and Valeria Taggert Pond in Smithfield, Utah. He served an LDS mission in the Northern California Mission, and later with his wife LuDean in Batangus, Philippines. He also served in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1954 to 1956.
He had an excellent singing voice and received superior ratings in statewide High School competition. He attended college at Utah State University, obtaining a Bachelors degree with a major in Animal Husbandry in 1958. He was an outstanding farmer and his cattle were graded in the top 3% in Cache Valley with the American Breeders’ Association. He married LuDean Allsop in Logan, on May 29, 1957. They were later divorced. He married Belen Santos Cruz November 14, 2006. He served in various capacities in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a hard worker and always provided the necessities of life for his large family.
He is survived by his wife, Belen; five daughters and three sons, Judy (Galen) Daniels of Millville, UT; Darla (Cory) Yeates of Logan, UT; Karol (Lynn) Stephens of Hyde Park, UT; Troy (Teresa) Pond of Logan, UT; Angela (Jim) Simmons of Hyde Park, UT; Dan (Kimberly) Pond of River Heights, UT; Dixie (Saryon Michael White) Pond of Sandy, UT; and Jayson (Jennifer) Pond of Clearfield, UT and by his four step-children, John Eric Cruz, John Michael (Levy) Cruz, John Denver (Rosanna) Cruz, all of the Philippines, and Maybeline (Dallin) Grow of Hyrum, UT. He is survived by two brothers, Delwin (Kathryn) Pond of Salt Lake City, UT; and Martin (Jeanine) Pond of Lafayette, IN. He is also survived by 23 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 11, 2017, at 11 a.m. in the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 Center Street, Logan, Utah. A viewing will be held Thursday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment will be in the Lewiston City Cemetery. Special thanks to the nurses and staff at the Sunshine Terrace for the great care they provided.
