Kade Christian Clemensen

On September 1, 1988 Kim and Mercedes Clemensen blessed the world with the birth of Kade Christian Clemensen. Kade started making waves as a 3- year-old swimmer, and kept his feet wet throughout his life learning to surf in the big blue ocean.

The ocean was a place of peace for Kade, which he sought often. Kade struggled through this life, battling depression and suicide. He was an advocate for mental health awareness and suicide prevention, particularly for children, and spoke for the World Health Organization at the United Nations in 2019 ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n_Tj6qwuI90 ).

Kade launched his 30-30-30 project in 2018, traveling to 30 countries in 30 days and ending on his 30th birthday, initiating conversations about mental health ( https://youtu.be/L3OFxLXcoEQ ). On this journey he asked people what made them happy. The answer from nearly everyone, family.

Four years ago, Kade was inspired to pick up a paper and pencil and began drawing. To cope with his depression, he became a phenomenal abstract artist. Kade spent time in Latvia expanding his artistic training, under Vitaliy Yermolayev, to include creations with luminescent paint. Kade then created It’s Not a Gallery to raise awareness for children’s mental health ( https://www.itsnotagallery.com/ ). Kade’s artiste name is Luxinox, meaning Light in the Dark. His art featured light and dark qualities, symbolizing both the surface and the unseen depth of humans. Kade’s art was so inspiring, he was invited to São Paulo, Brazil to paint 80+ paintings at Gallery Zero.

Kade launched another 30-30 project in 2020 with his friend Carla Genovesi, where they traveled to 30 cities in 30 days from Seattle to San Diego, creating a piece of art each day. Along this journey which highlighted his cause, Kade’s nieces and nephews created a piece of art each day to submit ( https://www.instagram.com/itsnotagallery/?hl=en ).

Kade expressed his art throughout his life by playing the guitar, skateboarding, snowboarding, and surfing, long before he picked up a paintbrush. Kade viewed these activities as an inner expression of art. Kade’s goal was to “destigmatize and demystify mental health”. Kade fought for a cause that eventually took him away from this life.

The world has lost a good man, a special soul. Everyone who’s life was touched by Kade is welcome to join us Saturday, February 19th at the Mendon Stake Center 460 South 100 East Mendon, Utah. A viewing of Kade's art will be held from 10–11:30 a.m. with a funeral at 12:00 p.m. followed by a graveside service at the Mendon Cemetery. Please, in lieu of flowers donate through Venmo @Luxinox, where the funds will be allocated for mental health awareness and suicide prevention.
