Karl Earnest Pettigrew

July 9, 1923 — August 4, 2017

Logan- Karl Ernest Pettigrew, 94 passed away August 4th 2017 from natural causes.
Born July 9th 1923 in Monument Kansas to Ernest and Ethel Pettigrew.
Married Jeanne Brown June 14th 1952. He graduated form Cortez High School in Cortez Colorado and immediately enlisted in the United States Navy as radioman and gunner in the 7th Fleet in the South Pacific. He was very proud of his Military service.
After the war he attended Fort Lewis College in Durango Colo. Then he transferred to USU where he graduated with a degree in Geology.
He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad and eight years at Thiokol. He went on to work at Hill Air Force Base where he retired, in the Missile Division where received recognition and a commendation for his work. He traveled to other Air Force bases to train their staff.
Karl and his brother Keith lived interesting lives. At a young age they lived on a ranch where his father was the foreman. It was 35 miles from town and 2 miles away from the school. They actually rode horses to school. Their mother left them at very young age and they were raised by their father and extended family. They would go on camping trips by themselves for couple weeks at a time with hardly any supplies; just a .22 rifle and some fishing tackle which they would have to catch their food.
They moved to Cortez Colorado where he attended Cortez High School and played football. Their team was undefeated the four years he played. After high school Karl and his brother Keith enlisted in the Navy, Karl served four years in the 7th fleet.

Karl met Jeanne Brown while attending USU. He had decided to go back to Colorado and he was about half way home when he stopped, and turned around and came back. He decided he loved her and he married her. They had three children.
Dad was a genuine and honest man with a great sense of humor. He meant what he said. He was always ready with a handshake and he always had time to chat. He loved USU sports and the Denver Broncos. He enjoyed his vegetable garden and working in the yard. Dad was very handy, he could fix almost anything from the cars to the house. Above all he loved his family and he would do anything to help. Even when he was lying in the hospital he would ask if there was anything he could do.
He is loved very much and will be missed.

Survived by his wife Jeanne Pettigrew, sons Karl (Darla) Pettigrew, Richard (Karen) Albiston and our cousin Carol Pace ( Fred). 7 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 1 great great grand child. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter Kristy Pettigrew Mathews and his brother Keith.
