Kathleen Maughan Lind

Kathleen Maughan Lind, 90, of Smithfield, Utah, passed away on Sunday, June 12, 2022, surround by her family.

Kathleen was born on January 28, 1932, to J. Howard and Hattie Maughan in Murray, Utah. She grew up in Logan, Utah. After graduating from Logan High School in 1950, She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Utah State University.

She met Don Leslie Lind in Boston, and they wed on April 1, 1955, in the Salt Lake Temple. They went on to have seven children: Carol, David, Dawna, Douglas, Kimberly, Lisa, and Daniel. Kathleen was a dedicated mother to all her children, raising all seven of them to go on to accomplish great things.

Kathleen and Don celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary this year. Don said that Kathleen was “the wind beneath his wings”. Kathleen was a happy child who grew up sledding down College Hill at USU and exploring the Logan Canyon where her family had a cabin.

She served a Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the New England States Mission where her father was the mission president. She served in many church callings. Service to others was a pattern throughout her life. In later years she served as an Assistant Temple Matron in the Portland Oregon Temple, as a Public Affairs Missionary in the Europe Northern Area, and as a temple worker in Nauvoo, Illinois and Logan, Utah. In these callings she served alongside her husband.

She was a writer of poetry, short stories, and is a published author of her book “Don Lind, Mormon Astronaut”. She belonged to a Cache Valley Literary Club that her mother Hattie helped found. Kathleen belonged for 34 years and was the president a number of times. Four generations of her family were members of the literary club.

Kathleen saw beauty everywhere she went. She and Don took painting classes together to have a designated date night. Building their relationship as sweethearts was of paramount importance. They both continued to paint for many years. She also enjoyed the theater and opera and loved sharing these with her family.

Kathleen was predeceased by her parents; her four siblings and their spouses: Mary (Ross) Sargent, Virginia (Fred) Kammeyer, Howard (Bonnie) Maughan, Walter Leon (Shirley) Maughan; sister-in-law Kathleen Lind; and grandson Joseph Wadsworth. She is survived by her sweetheart and eternal companion Don Lind; children: Carol Lind, Kearns, Utah; David (Celeste) Lind, Tallahassee, Florida; Dawna (Doug) Kuhn, Smithfield, Utah; Douglas (Tammy) Lind, West Valley, Utah; Kimberly (David) Wadsworth, West Jordan, Utah; Lisa Lind, West Jordan, Utah; Daniel (Laura) Lind, Smithfield, Utah; twenty-two grandchildren and twenty-eight great grandchildren.

The funeral will be held June 21st at 11:00 am, with a viewing preceding the funeral from 9:00-10:40 am. Located at 340 E. 300 S. Smithfield, Utah. (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints chapel) Burial will follow at 2 pm in the Logan City Cemetery.
