She was born November 27, 1918, in Logan, Utah, to Alonzo Smith and Beatrice Quinney Smith. She attended elementary and junior high school in Logan. Her family moved to Brigham City after junior high and she began her sophomore year of high school at the age of 13. The family moved back to Logan for her senior year.

Kathleen attended USAC (Utah State University) when she was 16 years old and majored in English. She belonged to Alpha Chi Omega and was a member of Phi Kappa Phi when she graduated. Joe and Kathleen were married November 4, 1939, in Logan, Utah. Their first home was a log cabin located near the middle fork of the Boise River, where Joe's employment took them. It was so remote that they had to ski out in the spring.

Joe's employment took them to North Carolina, Colorado, Nevada, Utah and Idaho. Joe and Kathleen moved back to Logan, Utah in 1989. She lovingly cared for Joe until he died in 1992 after an extended illness. Kathleen was a member of the LDS Church and served in several positions. Kathleen was loving and accepting to all. She always kept strong relationships with friends and family. She was the glue that held the family together. Her many talents included music, sewing, writing, and flower gardening. Her keen wit and sense of humor will be remembered for years.

She is survived by three daughters: Sarah (Gordon Willmore of Logan), Carolyn (Irv Burch of Northridge, CA) and Kathy (Gary Ovens of Green Valley, Al). She is survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren who she dearly loved.
